Yeah I lovvvvvvveeeee turkey hunting. I shot a 23.5 pound gobbler last spring. Spurs were just over an inch and very sharp. It took 1 hour to call this bad boy in. Had 4 live hens walking around in front of us too and in the decoys. The one hen walk right in front of me to less than 10 feet. I though she was gonna bust me a couple times becuse she would start yelping and after 3 she would stop dead, looked right at me. I thought the hunt was all over then. Miraculosly she started purring and that drew a big smile on my face. If you ever here a hen cluckin' and purrin' that is the most content, natural safe sound they make.
I use a total of 6 turkey decoys ,plus my best friends 3 when he comes out. 3 of mine are Renzos decoys they work awsome, and there fairly cheap too. I have had 1 gobbler and 2 jakes leave 3 live hens and walk 75 yards right into my decoy spread. So a 2-3 full bodies plus renzos sillouettes have proven very deadly for me.
I use remington hevi shot 3.5'' # 5's. They pattern awsome. That 23.5 pounder I shot was 42 yards away.
For calls I like mouth calls but own every single different type out there. I like calling aggressively especially when the gobbler has 2 or more hens. If you start off yelpin' and then start cuttin' really aggressive and mix those two up your gonna make Mr.gobbler all fired up and if there is hens with him you will p$$ them off and they will come over and see what the commotion is. Therefore dragging Mr. Butterball over too.
I tried aggessive calling last spring because I was told when turkey hunting don't call alot you will scare them. The people who told me that I obviously proved them wrong last spring. Out of 6 hunts I only had 1 bird that would not work with me. My best friend and I were all tagged out within the first 2 weeks, and not 1 bird out of the 4 we were allowed was under 20 pounds. Hope this helps,If I can figure it out I'll cange my avatar and put in my big gobblers pic. :D :D :D :D :D 8) 8)

I'm a cross-dresser too. Waterfowl is now my passion, but I started, 15 years ago, chasing gobblers. Most of the fieldcraft skills with waterfowl hunting will carry over to turkey hunting; camo, calling, decoys (not as important for turkeys but do help), noise & movement discipline (absolutely critical). Turkeys have keener eyesight and hearing than ducks/geese; although, I might get beat up by a group of duck hunters, who don't know turkeys, for saying this.
Calls: I pretty much bring them all: a few mouth calls, box, two-sided slate, push button and a gobbler call (locator).
Camo: Mossy Oak New Break-up
Gun: 870, 21" barrel w/ Truglo front & rear adj. sights.
Shells: Remington Heavishot 3" #5s. Buy top shelf because you may only get one shot each year.

IM definately Excited, i saw about 8 hens sitting in a treestand this year hunting state land, was Late Sept, got me really excited cause it was the first time i seen turkeys in the wild, as far a versed in the disipline part of it, ive deer hunted from the ground for years and years, so the sit still, and keep quiet thing is ok with me, im looking into pickin up a cheap blind, to hunt turkeys in, im still debating on if im going to take my bow, or shoot the 12g, prolly a better idea if i take the gun, but i just think it would be awesome to shoot one with the Parker.....i can shoot bottlecaps at 20yrds off my back porch with it, and i pretty much shoot it everyday in the backyard, but i didnt get to shoot a deer with it this year, had many chances but was waiting for the BIG ONE...so i passes on a lot of meat this year.....but i so cant wait.....

A vest is a must have with a cushen. mouth calls, slates, box, gobbler shacker, crow call, and owl hooter. MossyOak Break Up camo. I've shoot 12 toms now and am 17 years old. my best year was 4 of them 2 in IL and 2 in MO. but i love my gun but i think i might do the bow thing for the first two day and see if it works and if not i'll take the ol gun the rest of the season.

I will be out there. I might even try for the state slam this season. We have 3 species here and can take 3 in the spring. Depends if I can afford the gas to do it though. Good luck to all heading out there this year.

Open Season here in Indiana and Tags are reasonable for out of Staters. We are filming with two really good guide services that can put you on birds. If any of you guys are interested, just get ahold of me.
I am going to concentrate on getting my daughter her bird even though I haven't killed a turkey before. She is so excited about going that I can't even think about shooting. We are really getting into the filming this year so hopefully I can share some good footage with you guys.

what type of turkeys are you hunting? Easterns, rios, merriams grocery store birds.  I hunt easterns, we are allowed 2 tags per guy at about $20 a pop. Seasons only open in the spring from the end of April to the end of May. My best friend and I are usually killed out by the end ot the second week, start of the third at the latest.

We are so damn over run with turkeys it redickulas i hate the ugly things but i do love to hunt em although waterfoul is my first love i do like hunting big ol longbeards In the last 4 years i have got my two birds every year. NOT to mention the few that got tanked extra the state only allows ou 4 tags a year 2 in spring and 2 in fall witch sucks becasue i could easly kill ten a year by not even trying

Hell yeah I bust longbeards in the spring. Here's my bird from last spring......24 lb., 10 inch beard, but what was awesome about this bird was the spurs. 1 1/2 inches!!! My dad dand uncle guessed the bird and 5 or 6 years old.

silver the reason we do that here in IL anyways is b/c we dont have very much public hunting land its mostly privet around here. So the state makes you draw for a county and you have i think a 5 day season to hunt that county and you can draw upto 3 permits a year. I like the way MO does theirs when i was under 16 b/c i could go and hunt for 15buck with the youth tag. but now i think its 165 or somthing for an out of stater. just my .02 on how the drawin tags thing works

(killer Miller) Nice gobbler. Your one big spur is just a hair longer than mine. The beard on mine was around 10- 10 and a half too. :D :D :D :D Can't wait to go try to smack another big old gobbler.

Kansasgoosehunter, you gotta have at least a full choke. I shoot a Primos Jelly Head. Its made specifically for turkey hunting.

I love chasin them gobblers too. Realtree hardwoods HS diaphram and slates. i also use a small blind made by HS that is about 18 in tall. It really conceals your movement at ground level and very portable.
DON'T MOVE !!!!!! thats my biggest advice for anyone new, they can see anything

If anybody is struggling to kill turkeys, just come my way. I kill one every year the 1st day out. Man them things are so stupid it isn't even a challenge. Might have to try using a bow this season.
