View Full Version : Strait Suzy Sticking?

Bought the Strait Suzy call a few weeks ago and absolutely love it - except for one thing: The reeds stick together after only a few minutes of outdoor use. Usually requires one very hard blow of air to unstick them - and the call sounds like a party horn when you do so. Any ideas as to why?
Thank you!

Hey man...ive got two strait suzys and use them both as my go to calls anymore. Very nice calls for the money. Ive got a poly and a wood/poly. My poly one I bought at a Cabelas store and it stuck the first time I put a breath of air into it. I got with Big Sean and he had me send it into the shop and ask Drew for a new insert, which I did. It sounded a lot better once I got it back but it still stuck from time to time when I would blow it in my car or at home. So, I did what I have heard a lot of guys say to do; took the reeds out of it and scuffed up my tone board a little with a finger nail file. I had never done it before to any of my calls as I was afraid of messing them up, but man it sure does work. I've blown both of these calls in the field this year and have yet to have them stick on me again. Give that a try man..hope it helps!

Do you just scuff up tone board or the reeds as well?

you could put chapstick on the reeds that keeps them running even when filled with water
