I was scanning another forum, and found a topic in which a guy was wondering if anybody had heard about a 10,000 dollar reward band. I guess supposdly there is one duck in each flyway that has this band anybody heard of this? Would you keep all the money if you shot it or donate it back to the wildlife like DU or something like that?

It was a deal Macks Prairie wings did a few years ago. I dont think they were ever recovered.

i guess no one will know unless they shoot one! Could you imagine picking up a greenhead and seeing $10,000 REWARD on it. You sure as hell couldn't let anyone know you shot it untill you got home or else you might not have it any more

No one recovered it yet, but a coyote somewhere just burped up some expensive lead.
The first bird I killed this year in the early season was a $100 reward. The bird I shot right next to that one in the same flock was also banded but it was not a reward band. I had a feeling right than that this was going to be a great year!

I would keep it for sure, like they said just more toys I can get. And if I did i think someone would take it from me because they would have to come save me from drowning. I would pass out and go under if I picked up a big reward band like that, heck if I got a regular band id get real happy.

id keep it, we got alot of work to do on our hunting property, so i guess in a way it would go back to the birds, and me killing more of em!

I think DU or Delta had one out a couple years ago for a million bucks if you harvested the bird that particular year! This was only one band on a drake mallard and they didnt tell you which flyway.
The prize to my knowledge was never claimed. Anybody remember that one?

What I recall was like Kelly said - a contest promoted through MPW. In each flyway a drake mallard was released with a reward band worth $250K. As a hunter you would not know that the bird was worth a large sum of money, the band, according to the desciption in the ad would look just like any other avise band. The hunter still had to go through the same process of calling in the harvested bird. To my knowledge no one has ever claimed any of the four birds. Further I've never seen any other pubication on the contest other that what was inside the cover of MPW a couple years ago
