Lets get some threads going on what we should be doing to get out dogs ready and better for next year.

One of my favorite field commands to my dog is hide.

Start while sitting in your chair tell the dog hide and put a blanket on it.

After a few days and the dog is use to this put it over it head and make it stay hidden.

Then after that is accepted bring in a goose decoy and make stay under the decoy.

I looked at her the other day and said hide she ran by my wife and laid down real low by her side. My wife is big

i'll second that hammer

if you guy's have dogs that need some touch up work or just starting out
a great place to start is with the videos by Richard Wolters, gun dog and water dog are very informative. he walks you through all the steps and repetitions on training your dog. he also includes segments on gun shyness, force fetching and casting.

first I need to get my dog to obey me. I f-itd on the training when I first got him so now I am paying for it. He is a brittany spaniel that I am trying to convert to waterfowl hunting so that is a challenge all in itself. The problem I am having is keep him still figures. And he wont go after the dummy bird, but he will go after a dead (live) bird. I know I will be the whole summer with this dog but I am pretty sure if I work with him enough that it will well worth it. Any help would be apperciated.

E-collars are a good place to start. but you have to start out light on the dog or you can ruin it real fast. my first choice is the tritronics sport 50, it comes with an instructional video on how and when to use it.

i wouldnt recomend innoteck E- collars. went though 4 the first 2 yrs.

We have two of them. I am pretty sure one is ruined from my hunt last week when I fell in the drink. Like I said I f-uped the training when he was a pup, so now I think he is collar wise if that is the correct term. I need to go back to basics.

Collar wise is so easy to change. What does your dog love to do? What ever that is you pu the collar on him before the event. He will then learn the collar is a good thing.

I have a rule in my house no-one can give the dog a treat unless they put her collar on first.

In 6 months that dog will think the collar is the best thing in its world.

the thing is he knows when he can misbehave. When that collar is on he is pretty good at obeying, but when that collar is off, forget trying to get him to do anything. On top of that it seems like he doesnt even notice when I zap him even when it is on the highest setting. I cant seem to figure out what the problem is the collar is fully charged the transmitter works.

Leave the collar on him all day long and then take it off at night. You have to do this every day. I have never figured out why people take the collar off when they say "it behave with the collar on" If that is true (not doubting you) why not leave the collar on every day then the dog would behave the rest of it life and condition it self to good behavior.

Oh yeah that girl you like do not be afraid ask her out. Your only goal in life as a school boy should be get as much as you can as often as you can.

Go to one of them rock stores and buy a set of them spike deals. Put them on the collar backwards and she'll think the collar is always around her neck. I've heard this works. But, do it after she has gotten used to the collar being on and getting it in her head that it is on and she has to behave.

Just my $.02.

With ya on Innotek "no go" thing Brother. I went through 2 in 18 months. If I did it all over again, I'd go with the Sport Dog, Wetland Hunter 2000.

For the most part, I stopped using it with Scout about a year ago, but every once in a while he needs it to go back to the basics.
