View Full Version : The day of the Pintail............

Went out this AM to a refuge with my pop's, buddy and his son. We drew a decent blind and got out there and set up. These blinds are concrete & sunk in to a little mud mound. I covered that mound with FB Mallards, Pin's and honk's to break our outline and add some realism & that was the ticket. The shooting was steady all morning. There were thousands of ducks working this area and 80% of them were pintail!:o In all my years of waterfowling i have never seen so many pintail durring one day. It was amazing. They worked us to death. We are only allowed 2 per person and needless to say we made short work of those drakes.
We ended the day a few short due my buddies son being new to duck hunting. The shot's were a little on the tricky side at times.
Here's a few pic's of mine and my dad's limits.

Doc, you are on fire with the mixed bag thing out there on the "left" coast. Way to go Brother!! We don't even see pins here by me; at least I don't. I would trade all my giant Canadas for just one of those sprigs. It's like real estate; location, location and location. Again, nice job Bro.

Yeah, we've been very fortunate this season. I cant complain one bit. I love shooting a mixed bag. There are a lot of guy's who just shoot mallards & pintail. I, am not one of those. I'd like to try for 7 different birds in one limit one day if i can. My offer still stands, if you ever make it out here i'll hook you up with some pinnies.
