I was invited to hunt a river in on public ground yesterday. I left at 4:30 am drove out to pic up Devin (huntin geese) on here. Drove for another hr an 1/2. get to the river and as we're hauling like 80 pounds of gear for half mile, a car pulls up and one of the stayed back and talked with em. The other group shot 3 boxes of shells and killed 6 geese the day before. we get into the blind and a pair locked up comin in to us about 200 yards from the other guys they blast at em. five more come up river 150 yards they shoot. We had a single 60 yards out from us they shoot. but we got him. need less to say, they shot at every group that flew by. I think we could have shot a limit by noon instead we hunted till sunset and only got 1. I hate it when people do this crap. they had only 12 decoys out we had about 60. To put all that work in and that happen it is just frustrating. really we dont need to give the dnr another reason to dislike hunters but I think we should have called em.
another subject we seen tons of birds migrating north yesterday. I thought they would come back but they didnt. then I got a couple of calls saying alot of birds were flyin north from bloomington past joliet. I dont get it we are getting a cold snap why would the birds head back north.

Sounds like typical public ground around here,if the birds even think of flying over the spot at 100 yards high they shoot at them. The idiots dont seem to have enough smarts to understand they are ruining it for everyone else and just wasting shells in the process.

I no wat you mean. that bull crap happens around here in private spots. and yea the same thing with the migration is happening around here in southern Illinois. we set up in a field sunday that had bout a 1000 snows in it and 4 or 500 canadas in it and tons of specks on saturday and we had 3 singles and a pair work us and that was all the action we had all day and seen alot of migrators headed north

you know what really got to me is the river went up at least 3 ft while we were there. if they did drop something there is no way they would have been able to pic up the birds.

I have permission to hunt a field by my house that always produces. We received permission with one clause, do not drive in the field. Because of that we save this field to hunt when our other fields are not producing, only because we can drive in those. The day after christmas I took my brother in law and nephew on a hunt to this field. The were running late so I started walking stuff out to the field. On my fourth trip of carrying decoys I hear a truck pulling in, so I turned and looked to see if it was them. Unfortunately, it was a known sky buster pulling into the field. Not only was he going to set up down the way from us ( the field is big enough to hunt 3 groups safely) but he was driving in the field. After pack muling all the equipment, to have this guy drive into the field that nobody is allowed to drive in was a huge kick in the junk. We hunted 3 guys and ended up with our limit after shooting 9 shells. Every bird dropped in the kill hole except one that dropped at the edge of the decoys. They were hunting 5 guys and went through at least 5 boxes and had 2 geese by the time we left. They were sky busting when there was no need to sky bust. We never shot a bird that was over 10 feet off the ground. They shot 15 times and dropped a bird that the dog retrieved out at 200 yards. Some people just don't get it, you would think that when you see birds finishing for someone else that you would at least let the geese working you try and finish. It is very frustrating having someone ruin your hunt because of ignorance. Our hunt lasted an hour, but could have easily been over sooner if they would not have scared birds out of the field due to sky blasting. There were at least 4 times we had birds right on the edge and they would shoot at birds that were 50 yards up and 100 yards out, and I wish I was kidding. IF you had the patience to read through this whole thing, you can tell I feel your pain.

I hunt all public land and this stuff happens all the time and it makes me mad. People think they can just shoot and someting will fall. well I haven't found that magic shell or gun yet but if someone finds one can you please PM me. If you didn't shoot em feet down you didn't fool em.

i don't want to limit people from hunting but this is one of the big reasons i think there needs to be a test before specific hunting licenses are sold. if you cant id birds to a decent degree and cant tell when a bird is in reasonable, killable range you don't belong out there on your own. and i think for most guys it isnt that they don't get it, i think they dont really care about their fellow hunters. kids and new hunters going out and learnin with someone is great but that should mean taking sure shots, not blasting everything in sight.

people like that should just know that they are not doing themself or others any good... it just pisses you off .. I have no problem seeing birds gliding into others dekes .. heck i sometimes enjoy it and i most certainly won't pull the dick move and skybust....but i would like the same in return and there are some out the that are just A-holes.........here's what I say........GO F-IN DEER HUNTING OR SMALL GAME AND LEAVE THE WATERFOWLING FOR THOSE THAT HAVE INTREGRITY AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS...(no offfence to small gamers or deer hunter) but it has been my experience that there a lot with that mentality that's why i haven't deer in PA for 16 years...

The one thing I forgot to add was this guy is retired and hunts every single day. You would think that at some point sky busting just wouldn't be fun anymore. I completely agree with Tim K, sometimes enjoy watching the birds work and other people shoot. My best hunt this year was after I limited out and got a chance to just call and watch the birds work. We had a group of 25 geese oak leafing and just putting on a show. The three guys in the group shot their limit out of that group and we were finished. The show they put on was simply awesome, everyone in the group was pumped, giving high fives. One of the guys was new to goose hunting and he was simply in awe. I have never seen that from sky busting.

i have found most skybusters are just slob hunters in general.they cant blow a call, dont know how to put out a decoy, cant master the art of camoflalge.and they dont know the effective range of there guns as well.if they have a dog he wont retrieve ether.i can only imagine what other aspects of slobbness goes on in there patehtic skybustin lives........................R
