Just picked up an acrylic call used and the previous owner must've been a smoker. Any tips on how to get the smell out. Have scrubbed it with dawn dish soap, let it soak in there, and she'll be sitting in mouthwash overnight (just the barrel end). If that doesn't work my brother suggested bleach??? Will that hurt the acrylic at all? Any other suggestions?
I wouldn't use bleach due to how caustic it is, could corrode the finish on the band possibly?...
You may want to try something like Listerine, see if that will kill the smell.
Otherwise, a toothbrush and toothpaste and scrub it?

would the reed and gut set be more subject to taking on the smell? i know there a lot softer and porous and maybe more easy for the smell to attach it's self in my opionon. I would replace the gut set too even though it will be more broken in. nothing against the smokers out there in use to be a very ameuture smoker anymore i can't stand the smell on clothes breath ect,...again no offense to the smokers out there,,,,but i would try that i'm sure you know you can order a new set from the shop....good thing it's not wood i think it would be even worse if not imposiable

spray it or soak it with a dilluted rubbing alcohol. Should work.

If you find a solution to this problem please post and share with others. Last summer I bought all the waterfowl hunting gear of an old hunter who was totally getting rid of everything. All of the gear was stored in his basement. His wife smoked several packs a day. The decoys, bags, calls, clothes, waders, heaters, and even the sled had a nasty odor of stale cigarette smoke. I let everything air out in my garage, I washed it as good as possible, and I even sprayed with febreeze. NOTHING worked. I ended up selling everything but the decoys and heater. My wife made me move everything out of the garage and into our shed due to the smell. I was in the shed last week and it reeks of cig smoke due to the decoys. Pretty nasty stuff.

I guess his only chance for him is to be a waterfowler ..... imagine if he was a deer hunter? the deer would smell him 5 miles away.....no woner he gave it up....if the dekes aren't that great get rid of em' too ... only thing worse is cat piss but the gross moldy smell of a smokers laire a close runner-up...good luck with a solution
try throwin it in the dishwasher, that may do it, I dont think the heat will melt the acrylic, I dont know what the melting point of acrylic is though...

Sorry I never responded. I actually soaked the call in Scope mouthwash overnight. Once for the barrel (up to the band) and once with the insert and the reeds and santoprene wedge too. I actually think the reeds carried the majority of the smell. As far as I can tell (I've had a head cold for the last 2 weeks so my sniffer is a little plugged) it seemed to work decent. Actually made it bearable at least. Before that it was dang near like I was smoking a pack everytime I went to blow on it.

In a somewhat related (but not really) story. I bought a duck call from a kid on the avery forum, got it in the mail, opened it up.....and the sucker was full of old dried out chew!!!!!! I was like.."AT LEAST RINSE THIS CRAP OUT, BEFORE SELLING IT TO SOMEONE!" I just couldn't believe that someone would sell a call like that. I always make sure my calls ae sparkling when they leave my hands.

get some water real hot not boiling but hot. Put soap in and let it set for a few hours, but keep changing the water to keep it hot. Its getting the water hot that is the trick. worked for me. I didnt have a smoker call but mine was smelling a little funcky. Try it out and let us know.
