I think the SMH but I just got my HPH and that thing sounds awesome. I have a Meat Cutter also...takes more back pressure but, sounds great.

SMH is always a great start. Keep in mind that the way that the call is tuned will effect how much air it takes and how easy it is to call on.

SMH I heard requires none to little back pressure

Ok the SMH requires NO back pressure to blow. The more reed that is exposed the more air it takes to blow the call and the call will be deeper toned. The less reed that you expose the less air it will take and the call will be more crisp and fast.

The length of the reed actually controls the pitch or tone of the call. Shorter means higher pitched, longer means lower. The distance between the tip of the reed and the end of the channel in the gut determines air pressure to run the call. Little gap - easier to blow.

I would have to agree with SMH. This call can be used one handed, with no back pressure. As far as tuning, becareful. I actually messed up my first shortreed call a couple years ago. But you have got to play with it to learn. If you get a chance, attend a show where there is a pro-staffer or two on hand. I am sure one of us can help you tune the call to fit your needs. Good luck and let us know which call you go with.

I think that the MH is easier to blow than the SMH. I have used a MH and it requires very little air to pop the reed.
