How many of you guys still use flute calls for hunting? Or do most of you guys have them as a throwback and collectors item?

They are still used by a fair number of guys that i know......Grinder keeps one his lanyard (he plays a MEAN flute!!!!)....i always have one in my bag or on the lanyard....they come in handy every now and again. Whether geese ain't respondin to a short reed or you are group calling and it adds a different sound, i think they still do have their place!!!!

I would have to agree with 1 shot 1 kill in terms of a differnt sounds. My problem a haven't grasped the discipline of the flute...mine sounds like a $100 party horn due to my mad skills on the MC. Maybe I'll get little coned party hats for my big feet and a birthday cake decoy and I can fool them into a surprise birthday party....but my intention is to be able to use it some day properly

I use mainly short reeds these days, but i still whip out the flute every now and again. Just like carrying a high pitched call and lower pitched short reed, a flute adds a slightly different tone to the lineup when times are tough. There surely is nothing wrong with a flute, they can be lethal!

I just got one. I can't get anything out of it to sound like a goose.......let alone anything alive
