just taking opinions on the MINIMUM number needed to be worth putting any out. not talking hundreds or thousands here....talking about both floaters and field.

I havent hunted snows for a few years, but when i lived in Kansas before they had the spring conservation season i tried different numbers. We would see migrators coming back through late february before the season ended. There would be times when we would get to the field and birds were flying so we would only put out half the spread or would get out late do to late nights chasing women at the local bars. I can think of several times we set out 300-400 on blue bird days with a south wind when geese are migrating and we wouldnt pull any in so we would put out the rest of the dekes and they would start to decoy nicely. We usually ran 600-900 i personally would say 500 minimum. That also was before e-callers were legal so we were just calling to beat hell until we were blue in the face. If i were to hunt migrators on field or water i personally would take no less that 500 if i really wanted to pile em up.

I'm with Goose4280 on this! no less than 4-500. You really need a good team of ppl to do so to! It gets really dreadful after the geese start trading to different fields and you have to make the trek to another for success. good luck man!

Wow he said bare minimum. We had good hunts last year over 60-100 fullbodys. This year we ran about 220 fullbodys and did decent. I was pleased. Hunts ranging from 15 birds to 25 with usually 2 or 3 guys shooting and alot of birds in range but not enough guns. Buy less, scout more and find birds not being hammered on in every field. DONT BUY RAGS. At least buy a sock style with a back support or fullbodys. Get a good ecaller too.

we don't really hunt them that hard and only do so once we've found an X. i was hoping i could get away with a few dozen but doesn't sound like that few will make much difference so i guess i'll stick to pass shooting and hiding in the X well for the few times each spring i head out.

a good buddy of mine shot 10 plus a band yesterday over 60 sillosocks here in south dakota. small spreads can work, you just need to know what kind of birds to setup for. your not going to be pulling migrators or running traffic with a spread less than 200 decoys.
