i almost have a theory on this...the whole vaccum thing.....think about when you blow the call...are you making one continous sound...nope.....moans are one tone, clucks are another, and you literally make two sounds just to do a honk, all of which im sure the reed makes different indents in the toneboard....so say you hook it up to the vac...run it...and it makes a moan cause thats how you wore the guts in, but the honk sounds like poop.....i unno if any of this is tru, but im a firm believer in just blowing the call....its how you learn, and its how the guts were meant to be broke in, spacifically to the way you call, and spacifically to your calling style......this is just my .02$ so do what you wish with your calls.....i just think that the only way to get good on one of these calls is to acctually put the time in and practice....it takes a while...but it took a while to build the great wall, and the pyrimids didnt it, they didnt hook up a vaccum to them and build them over night......so put the time in and learn a few things along the way.....thanx and goodnight lol...

i agree dropem i think that the reed and the guts need to be broken in to the way that you call and lets face it, it never hurts to have that little 10-15 work out with your call i mean all it is going to do is make you and the call work better together instead of the call sounding awsome since thats all it knows how to do and you sound like poop blowing the call

Ok here we go, Once you have your reeds in the sweet spot dont move them! Constantly calling will wear the guts in. I dont think that the reed makes different indents on the guts, I believe this because my guts are worn in and there is a definate outline where my reed sits. I havent thrown my calls through the vacum because I call on them all the time and that is more productive than throwing it on a vaccum.

i've never really heard of this vacum thing but all i know it the day i got my SMH was x-mas day last year. i started blowing if from the min i got it. the following day we went out on the lake by here and mudered the honkers. i think between the three of us we killed out 6 honkers in 1 1/2 and i never even wore the reed in. but i like my call a lil louder. just how i like it. but thats my .02

Just blow the crap out of your call. I blow goose calls all year long, thats half the fun experimenting with different sounds and learning what sounds you can make on it. Just my 2 cents worth, It has worked well for me. :) :)

Dude I just got my SMH and it stays in the truck that way whenever I'm riding around town or to school or work I'm blowin the absolute fire out of the thing. WHen I get home i take it in with me and blow it in my room or on the back porch. Me and my buddy go out in his workshop and hammer down on it.
That is the best way to wear in the guts, just blow the call.
