right now in SE kansas we have about 2 inches of sleet/snow/ice on the ground. yesterday we saw about 5000 or more geese hitting theese two fields. that was at about 5:30. we had a field that was real close and was the same crop that we decided to hunt this morning. we saw one goose and it flew right to us and we dropped him but never saw another goose flying. if all the water around here is froze and all the fields are covered with winter mix, then why are these geese here? We left the field at about 9:30 and went to check the ponds. all the geese stayed there until we drove up. then they flew to another frozen pond. what i am getting at is when it is cold, do geese always fly from pond to pond or would they rather fly to eat then back to pond then out to eat and then back to pond for night? what effect does the cold have on their eating habits.

are you talking about in the a.m. or p.m.? but if your talking about in the A.M. it seems like they fly at like 10 or 11 in the morning. so i guess you should stay out longer in the morning. hope this helps

I would have to agree with the last post. sleep in and go out later. it is down right cold here and one thing is they don;t fly to far from the roost to feed. they like to thaw out a bit. next time your out in the morning go and watch them on the roost they will stay tucked in until late in the morning.
