Just got my dog a couple of weeks ago, he is now almost ten weeks old. my question is at what point can I really start training for retrieving ducks?? Is he still too young ?

No, he is not too young at all. Training at his age is all about fun and keeping it short. You can use soft item's such as a rolled up sock or even a wing if you have any. Get the pup excited with it, tease him and throw it, he will go get it. It's best to do this in a hallway (close all the doors) that way he has to come back to you. If he does'nt come back, no big deal. Limit yourself to just a couple retrieves a day and keep it fun.
Have you started any puppy obedience yet? Sit, here, ect? There are a few good training DVD's for pup's out there. I recomend Jackie Merten's Sound Beginings, it start's at day one and has a lot of good drills for pup's.
Are you using a training program such as Evan Graham's or Mike lardy's? If not you need to get a program and stick to it. Be consistant with your training and you'll be suprised how fast they learn.

I started my labs training when I brought him home at 7 weeks. My boy got him a soft duck toy at walmart and I started using it as soon as he got used to the family.

Yeah I always heard it is better to start training at a really young age. As soon as they start getting comfortable with their surroundings
