Decoy Spread

Just wondering if you put ur decoys into the wind or going with the wind. We normally put them going with the wind but just seeing if anyone does anything different?

We usually put ours both ways, it kind of changes it up.

I like to have sleepers and feeders into the wind. Have a Sentry decoy towards the incoming flock and just mix the actives up.

same here we try to spreads looking like real honkers in the feild.

I agree, Spend some time scouting and observing birds, rarely you will see them all pointing one way unless they are on alert or feel threatened, Mix it up, Looks more real.....

Of all the times i have scouted, i have only ever seen a flock on the ground facing in the same direction. I was driving through a development and a big flock of geese landed away from the pond and they all were feeding/walking towards this pond. Looked very odd to be honest. Almost like they were placed that way. Since i seen that i make sure to mix em up.

If you look real close at a flock of geese that are on the ground feeding, they are'' facing every direction.'' The only decoys we put facing directly into the wind is a couple in the kill hole to make it look like some just landed. Another time you will see geese face into the wind is when you walk up on them in a park or such they will put their heads up start turning into the wind and if you get too close bye bye they go. This is just what I have noticed anyways.


Geese when they take off need to face into the wind to get enough lift to get outta there quick if need be, thats when I myself see geese facing all into the wind when they are extremly nervous about something. Just my 2 cents worth. Works for me. :) :) :) :) :)
