Question for the pro's

I live in northern maine, in fall time canada geese come here by the thousands passing through..
snow geese you might see 1or2 birds , Spring time there are usually 15to20 canadians in every pound around the towns..nesting (no snow geese)
This spring as of now there are 100to200 canada's in every pond, an this morning i seen 40 snow geese an 400 canadas in a field across the road from my house..ive hunted geese for 15 years in this location, and ive never seen this???? any thoughts

Thanks, Pete Bowmaster

has food supply changed? that would be my guess, where they use to feed might not be yielding this year and they are in search of better supplies.....or it could just simply be a large push of birds moving through that might be gone by tom.

Maybe cover crop???

I know ALOT of guys use wheat as cover crop, and usally around this year theres just enough wheat stubble to pick apart and eat.

Maybe thats it?

Global Warming? Just messing with ya. It may be due to increased nesting conditions in your area. I know in my neck of the woods we have had more breeding pairs stick around than normal. I'm no a biologist by any means but you might want to send woodrow a pm. He is a biologist and would probably have a better answer for ya.

Just pray to the Goose Gods that the birds are around. We see very few snows here, and if they are showing up in your area in numbers it may mean that they're looking to stay around and provide entertainment for later in the year. I would agree also that maybe food supplies have changed to some degree, however, without solid information it is difficult to guess.

Our Canadian Geese here have seem to have disappeared after December, but within the past month or so, they have come back in big numbers, especially after the weather moderated and the snow melted. The birds are examining fields for what appears to be spilled grain, corn especially, however, if they don't find sufficient feed, they move on to other fields quite readily. For the past week or so, since the farmers have been tilling fields, I haven't seen as many birds flying or visiting fields. It also could be that they are beginning to nest.

kinda the same deal out here - the snows ... we gota ton geese out here and have been here 4 awhile ,we always have a good population of birds but i was thinkin about it 2-day and figured with the late precipitation we had , we have water in spots where it isnt that common and the levels staying there + the warm days i figure they 've said screw it and decided 2 nest around here ...................... it also helps that the 1 farm i hunt never got there corn off and just brush hogged it last thursday......... but the same with the ducks , lots around and have been ................hope there around in 6-7 months
