I would just go to a store and by a pack of reeds than send it in especially if your season is still going. If your season is done and you want it tuned right then I would send it in!

Yeah that eventually happens to the reeds. You can just buy the reed online or call the shop and they can send you 1 then tune it yourself or I'm sure if you send it to them they will be happy to do it for you.

they wont give you a new reed , you have pay for that. the only thing the shop will do is put it in and tune it for free, so you have to pay the shipping and for the reed. if you tune your on calls anyhow just call the shop and order some new reeds. its like $3.00 for the reeds and $2.00 for shipping.

so which way does the reed crack the long way or the short way?

It can crack any way but i would say 99% of the time it cracks where they tone board flexes at the front of the wedge.

I cracked my reed last winter. I left my call in my car overnight and started calling on it the next morning after it was sitting in the freezing cold. I think it was due to the fact it was frozen!

I took the reed out of the call, spun it around and shaved the top side of it. It sounded fine, and I used that reed until my new reed came in.

Try it! You have nothing to lose!

I believe that when you get your guts worn in your reeds wont crack, bubble, or split as easily. I say this because the guts in my call went through 3 or 4 reeds last season and so far this year I have only replaced them once and the guts were fairly new last year.

It's kinda like oil in your car, you gotta change it once in a while and you either do it yourself or pay someone for the service.
