I would like to buy a PM choke. I would like some advice from you guys that have used them.
I have an SBE II and I shoot 3" and 3.5" shells and wondering if i should get the extended.
Thanks

It depends on the range you want to shoot... I have a regular PM in both of my benellis just cuz I like to shoot 20-30 yards, the over the decoys PM is alittle to open for my shooting situations, and the extended is alittle to tight at 20-30 yards.... so I use the regular and get the best of both worlds... Oh yeah I religeously shoot 3.5 # 2 or BB's

If you shoot 3 1/2" shells you want the extended. And yes, it will cause it to be a tighter pattern when compared to the standard.
The reason is that this is not a true choke tube. There is ZERO restriction. It is a Stripper tube. What it does is strip the wad from the shot as it passes out the muzzle.
Because the 3 1/2" wad is longer then the standard tube, the pattern increases as you are not getting the stripping effect as it passes through. The wad is not flush with the end of the tube. It actually sticks out the end causing it to open and throw the shot string in a more open state.

I heard that patternmaster chokes like to come loose after shooting awile and you are constantly checking them to see if they are still tight. Have they corrected that problem or no, Just wondering as I said I have heard about it not sure if it is true or not. :) :)
hossman thats common with all extended choke tubes, i always check mine after shooting.the reason they come loose is because you only have them hand tight, so its not a design flaw

I have a PM in my SBE2 and love it. Also I'm not sure but I think right now you can only get an Extended for the SBE2, or at least thats all Ive ever seen.
You can get both the long(standard) and extended range for SBEll my cousin tried them both in his and the EXT. didn't pattern any tighter then the standard out of his gun with 3 !/2" #2 heavy shot from 30 to 50 yards.

I shoot both the long range and the extended long range. They both shoot great and i won't switch to any other. I use only 3's #2's and 4's in hevi-shot. When i patterned mine at 40 yds i had almost a full pattern in 30 inch circle. I didnt pattern the extended long range yet but i imagine it will be the same if not better.

There are two things I buy when I buy a new shot gun. First is a extended range patternmaster. Second is a SIMS recoil pad. Two things that make the gun complete. They are well worth the cost!!!!!!!!

You will really like the patternmaster. I bought one for my SBE and I think it made a big difference. It hits them hard.

Yeah like drek said, I dont think you can get a standard PM for the SBE 2. I shoot an SBE and have the standard PM and derek has the extended in his SBE 2. I definately killed birds further away than derek (iowamigr8tor) this year. It's probably the shooter though. But I would go with the extended anyway. I think I'm gonna have me one before next fall. ALBERTA HERE I COME!!!

If you call patternmaster you can get any choke you want for a SBE II, you can even buy the whole set (3) all together. I don't know why they make it sound like you can only get the extended range for the SBE II... the guy I talked to wasn't really happy with their website for that same reason.... Just call them they were very helpful in suggesting the right tube for you...Hell , I started with a extended range and talked to the guy and he told me to try the standard and sent it to me with no questions asked... Very cool!!!!

I really appreciate it spaight, but I just dropped 500 on College textbooks unfortunately, moneys kinda tight, I'm gonna have to wait to spring most likely.
Thanks though man
This might be a dumb question, but do the SBE patternmasters interchange with Beretta xtrema's?

The SBE choke works with the OPTIMA chokes in Berettas.

I did have a bad experience w/ them in the berettas though. I went through a couple of them before giving up. In my old beretta they would expand and get stuck in the barrel even when they were tight to the barrel (not a loose choke getting hit). I got them out without damage but just watch um if you are putting one in the Extreama.
Were you using the standard or extended?
IowaMigr8tor

Extended. I called them up and they said that my barrel might be a little off compared to their measurements.
I don't know if it would be worth the gamble for me....It took me so long to save up for this beretta, I would be devastated if I ruined it!

what size choke would the patternmaster compare to? modified? full?

The Patternmaster choke tube has no constriction. It is a Wad ripping choke tube. It is designed to rip the wad away from the shot to allow it to exit the barrel undisturbed by the gases that are behind the wad. Thats what makes the pattern dense and undisturbed.

I have the older SBE I and i shoot an extended out of it. Didnt shoot a lot of 3 1/2 inch this year mostly 3 and did kill everything dead. Only had I think maybe 2 crips and those where long shots on geese.

Sure you did Miller
Oh I didn't derek? I don't remember you making any shots that I would call "long". Let me name a few of mine....double-banded bird fell at 80 steps (I have 3 witnesses), hen mallaard in CO, goldeneye in CO (same day as suzie), hen mallard when me and you went to your dads, all those drakes I shot in CO were seriously 40+. Thats enough for now. You do pound em though!!! 8) You're the only person my age that is even close to my level of shooting ability.
Marshblaster, I talked to the owner of Patternmaster last week. They are redoing the whole website soon, so it should be a whole lot better. You might even see photos of me, iowamigr8tor, and kingkilla on the site!!! He asked me to email him some for the site. 8) 8) 8)
