My brother and I have been in this debate for 2 years whether we get a 6x12 enclosed or just a 6x12 utility for hauling decoys. The enclosed would be the way to go but we don't know how much abuse it would hold up to on the gravel roads, mud and fields. The utility trailer would be easier by putting up some side panels and loading from the top with decoys however the cost of them are going up and don't think they will take the abuse. Anyone have an idea with this?

go with the enclosed for sure!

You can lock and key them up!

buy the enclosed with the gravel gaurd on the front and go from there. open trailers dont quite cut it, tarping down the top and where to put it so no one steals your deeks is a pain. gravel roads arent any harder on a trailer than they are on your vehicle.

Go enclosed. No worries when you stop for gas or breakfast. You can unload at your convenience. If you travel it's safe in the hotel parking lot.

Now, keep in mind if somebody wants something they are going to get it. but the enclosed trailer with lock will keep honest people honest.

Enclosed is your only choice...check out the thread "Did my trailer up"..i've beat the piss out of that thing this year..still as good as new! That's a 6x12 as well.

I've got a buddy who has a 6x12 Pace American, like new, for sale in Denver - $2200...buy the 10 doz flocked BF dekes with it for $2000 and he'll knock the trailer price down to $2000...

what year is the trailer? Is it a V-nose, and what kind of doors are on it?

I have a utility trailer now and it has done the job just fine for the last few seasons. Capacity on it is probably 16 doz. We usually have any where from 10 to 14 doz and we just tarp it over and throw a cargo net over the tarp. I will be getting a enclosed in the next year or 2 cant beat em.

Go enclosed, you will not regret it. Mine is tough. I beat the living crap out of it. I even backed it into a tree the last day.

Sounds like your next decision is gonna be how to arrange them in the trailer. I have shelfs. NEVER AGAIN. We are selling our trailer and all the decoys in it. Next years trailer with have all the decoys in the 6-slot bags. You can put double the decoys in the trailer, and they are already to go if you have to drag them out into a field.

Good luck and post some pics of what you do.

I have used an open trailer for a couple of years no and don't really mind, but it is kind of a pain unhooking it every night and put it the garage. But if you can I would get an enclosed trailer because it makes things a lot easier.

Go enclosed, I think it helps protect the decoys better and you can also lock the trailer.
