Some of my friends and i want to plan a goose hunt up to canada next fall and im just looking for some general information like websites or what to do and what not to do. We are planning on going to either saskachewan or alberta. we looked at going with a guide but im pretty sure we want to do this the hard way. Any help is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Is Free Lance like Free Willy?? :D
Can't hunt in Alberta without a guide, so cross that off your list.
I'll post up some links later - gotta leave for work soon...
Couple things of utmost importance - we're guests up there - so act accordingly - don't go charging around tearing up fields, driving over sawths, leaving gates open etc. That's the #1 complaint I hear from land owners. Next most common complaint is that people will get permission on a field and then not hunt it. If you get permission, get a phone number. If you find a better field, call back and cancel the first one. If you can figure out about where you want to be before you go, you can get your RM maps before you leave - very handy.
Sask law says you don't need permission if a field isn't posted. BUT - I'd strongly advise that you get permission anyway. 2 reasons: 1) you skip the permission phase and someone else sets up, you're screwed. 2) you set up, farmer sees you and decides he doesn't want you there all he's gotta do is drive out and say 'see ya boys' and you're pickin' up.
It ain't as easy as it looks on film sometimes - despite what you think, there are gonna be some days when you have tough sledding. Be prepared to drive your azz off - it's all about the scouting. Last year we put on 400 miles one day to find the birds and we moved where we were staying twice in a week...
Take a GPS and learn how to use it - there aren't a lot of signs up there and the fields are HUGE - you're gonna want the GPS to find the X in the dark...

Sweet, Thanks for the help.
Rainer, welcome to the forum. Good to see one of my boys starting to research the options now. I think I might have us a place to stay. And a pretty large farm. We will see.
Anybody else have any input.

Check out the new laws regarding international travel. Get your record check done months in advance as well.

Yea ive been trying to find websites regarding the seasons and such and i dont plan on hunting anybodies land without permission thats just not how we do it down south. The websites would be a huge help. I know we are all gonna get our passports pretty soon since it takes a while to get them i i have a gps and know how to use it i just need to buy the CDs and download the addition topo and road maps that you can add to it.
Thanks for all the help.

Yea, I think we are gonna field test some of the GPS's from the store. ESP. since Matt B is going. I think Todd might go now too. We need to talk Greg into going. I talked to my dad, he is gonna let me take the excursion.
But first things first, Waterfowl Weekend at Foiles headquarters. You in???????????? I would ask you in person, but I wasn't invited out tonight. LOL

Come on now. I was hoping you would tell us which farm and help put out the decoys. LOL
Man O Man I cant wait!!!!
Does anyone know the best, "shot in the dark" week to go. I know every year is different. But I think some of the boys are only gonna be able to go for a week. I would love to go for a little longer than that.

Depends what part of the region you're going to...you can go up anytime and just start scouting...couple years ago we went last week of Sept, last year we went 2nd week, just ahd to go a bit ( ok, a lot ) further north...
