wondering if there is any differences in a walnut hph vs a flamed hedge hph which one do u recommend and is there any differences?

They're both pretty mellow. My preference is walnut, but you can't go wrong with either one.

Not a staffer, so take my lowly opinion for what it is......=]

I have a hedge HPH and that call is amazing! I hunt over water so I need a mellow tone but also need a call that can get loud enough to get thier attention at a distance and it does all of that with ease. I have only tried the SMH in Walnut so I cant give you an exact difference but they are both fairly close in terms of tone and pitch, depending on tuning of course.

walnut, flamed hedge i think it's a matter what you like to look at and have confidence in....a wood HPH in any flavor is a good choice..that's my opionon..

Do the wood calls swell up fast? my dad had a wood duck call and it got so bad it cracked... but I really want to but a wood SMH so I don't know what to do....?

They do swell and the duck calls, especially, can be a bitch to get apart after you get them out of the cold, so they require a little more TLC, but the sound they give makes it worth it.

An all wood goose call is pretty much a must for "call geeks" like us, especially if you do any hunting over water. I have a walnut HPH and a coco SMH and they both sound real goosey.

I am no staffer but I do own both walnut and hedge HPH. My opinion is the hedge to be a little more mellow hollow soundin than the walnut. I have both of them set about the same as far as guts in them. Walnut seems to be just a little higher pitched too me. Hope this helps. BUBBA DUCK

+1 on that bubba duck.the walnut might be a tad louder too. ether call will work well on the honkers..good luck on your choice........................................R

I had both calls and found what Bubbaduck and Randy have said to be true.

I prefered the walnut over the flamed hedge but that was my personal preference.
