We got a dusting of snow so I decided it was time to go hit the field. Called the partner in crime and he was at work and would not be able to join me until 4. No worries I tell him. Geese are going to fly all day, there are a ton of birds, and we got plenty of time to get on them if you are there at 4.

I drive into the field at 2:15 and sit the decoys. 3:00 I am walking back in after parking the truck. 3:25 I have my 3 down. I wait and wait for him to get there. In the mean time I have birds in the decoys with me, walking, milling, feeding, sleeping, and on and on. He shows up about 4:15. As he is walking in the geese bust out. He is now half way to me and I have a loan goose on a string. It flies right over me and what do I see... a white neck collar with blue lettering... he is 30 yards up and I have my limit   Needless to say he lived for another day.

20 minutes later we are packing up as we have a 6 pack on ice... or snow anyway.

Got to love those easy late season birds!

I thought about it, I REALLY thought about it. The temptation was there. I'm not going to lie, the safety came off, I was focused. But man, it's not worth the legally or ethical ramifications that may follow. Plus, it might of messed with my Karma!

I'll get him. There are still 3 weeks left in the season. I'll set up for that bird and that bird only. Plus he wasn't educated. so he'll be back.

Well, you killed em with the 28 gauge and then the .410 if I am not mistaken. Did you shoot those with a nerf bow and arrow or what?!?! Seems as though that would be the next step after the .410.   Nah....something tells me those bloody birds took full loads from 12 gauges. Prolly SBE's w/Patternmasters.

You are correct... most were taken inside of 10 yards also. Nerf may have worked though! Maybe next year!

In the mean time somersaults, back flips, half twist 360's will have to do.

I'm in Kansas. We traded our September resident goose season for extra days in February.

Typically it closes the first weekend in February. Now it closes the third weekend in February. A change that I welcomed whole hearted! We have birds in September, but the crops are up (beans and corn) and that makes hunting hard around here. Space is limited, and the birds stay close to town.
