ive seen the cow decoys used in antelope hunting before. but they just used them to shield them to walk out on a stalk after some antelope. as far as goose hunting i would just have to say they are for the same thing. there just a confidence thing i guess. heck i dunno dont have that many snows around here so never neede to think about it. just thought i would add my two cents.

they're for scum-sucking yella-bellied ditch crawling dogs that can't decoy birds, but they work if yer a loser p.o.s. turd that's afraid to hunt like a man and just needs to post numbers to assuage their fragile ego...
that strait meat decal on yer barrel? If yer gonna ditch jump, take it off...buy ya some dekes and a snow call and ya can keep it...
Not that i have an opinion..

the people that pass shoot the birds as they are flying towards ur deocys ar the ones that make me mad. ive had guys be driving right by the field im in and hop out of their trucks and blast them as they cross the fence line heading for my decoys. i was a mad sum buck.

It works, and dont mind those other comments. Jump shooting/ pass shooting is a fine art that maybe a couple other people should try before bad mouthing.

I 2nd Shootstraight because not everyones got money like that and I can almost gurantee you kill just as many if not more if you ground pound em and jump shoot

I have heard they work great on Snows. They are overpopulated to kill all of them possible. I dont care how you are going to kill them but lets save the tundra. On snows I have jump shot, pass shot, and decoyed and I feel no shame in any of it! Obviously they invented them for a purpose. They also are designed by hunters, professional hunters, so apparently there is a desire for them.

Yeah group down around here called snows unlimited they got about 4500 decoys and they usually get some decent amounts

easy SL, I dont have a decoy spread right now so if I used one then I would be considered unethical by you is that how it goes. So if you are poor you are unethical but if you are rich then you are an ethical hunter or did I misunderstand your statement. I love it when birds cup and commit but until I learned how to do that with ducks it was all jumpshooting for me. This coming season will be my first year really trying goose hunting, so if I happen to jump a goose and I shoot it I should tell anybody I shot it because it was an unethical kill.

if any one is still focused on the subject of this post, the cow deff. works out great! Also i see nothin wrong with jumpshooting snows, especially with them being so unpredictable.

Wow! SL you're pretty set in your ways. I say everything's hunting as long as you plan it out and don't ruin someone else's hunt just to shoot a bird or two. It's called "being ethical".
As far as the cow decoy, I've never used one but I might think about it just because around here, we hunt alot of local geese and by the end of the season, their pretty skittish. :)

We have used a cow decoy before to get to the pond while our heifers are out and for jump shooting snows and Canadas. It works pretty damn good. Also, SL I love nothing more than calling in birds (I'm by no means a great caller) and workin em in to a spread. I have probably jump shot and stalked more ducks and geese where we run our cattle than I have ever decoyed. It is an art, it can be a hell of alot harder than getting birds to decoy, and success is usually low. Theres somethin to be said for crawlin 200 hundred yards on your stomach through mud and cow patties to get downhill to the pond and shoot a couple honkers. I agree about SOME people who are unethical and jump shoot other peoples fields though, that sucks.

how bout we all just settle down a lil and forget it was ever said...life will go on and if you think it was aimed at you i wouldnt take it personal...just keep mashin birds however you want to...some people say things out of frustration...maybe he had an incident with it the other day or something but i really wouldnt take it as anything to get mad about or fight over...and plus be the better man and just let it go...it will all be better once a new thread has been posted and gets everyones attention

Plus a field of Snow Geese
AND THE GROUND AND POUND WILL BE ON! Like everyone else said, there is just as much an art to stalking and sneaking in on ducks and geese as decoying if not harder than decoying.....

Ok well i wasnt even gonna respond to this thread because of the previous comments....but i figured now that everything has calmed down and come back to order.....
I look at it like this...Waterfowling is the art of Deception..no matter how you do it....You take Umpteen Dzn pieces of Plastic into a field that look like a bird (Decoys), and you blow air through a piece of Acrylic to decive flocks to take a look at you( Calls )...or you could drag a piece of wood into the field that looks like a cow to hide behind..( decoy )..its deception...whether your sneaking up on a pond to Jump some Ducks or weather you hide in a hedgerow on the edge of a field waiting to pass shoot some geese either way you look at it, its Deception....you have to hide yourself from the bird eyesight to bring him into range...Hence CAMO you wouldnt go out wearing a yellow jumpsuit.....if you could just stand in the middle of a field and the birds would just fall in on your head would you still call it hunting ??? is there any skill there ???...not in my eyes.....so no matter how you get the job done.....get it done...clean kills and ethical means of collecting your bag limit and get out........thats all there is too it........
and to anyone who SKYBUSTS on birds cause they dont have the skill to decoy them.....i say thanx....thank you for making those of us who take the time to do it right......look just a little more professional than you....

Lets throw a twist on this for you guys who will not sneak and ground pound.
Your out scouting and see a huge flock of snows in a field with a nice creek running down the middle of it and you glass them and see like 100 orange neck bands.
Can you say instant ground pounders HA HA HA

Fellas I am in the heart of snows and where I am is one of the most popular places to hunt snows in the spring. People come from all over to hunt them. i do believe in using decoys but i have jumped them as well. I am not saying it can not be done with a few hundred rags, That is not a big spread but it works. You have to learn how to hunt over a small spread and means you will not be able to sit in the middle of your spread and expect a slaughter. These birds have been worked since last october to the wintering grounds and when they come back in early spring they have seen it all. You have to set up along ways away from them. Does not seem right but if you want to put down some birds then thats what you gotta do. I have jumped birds and yeah got some. But then your done go on home because it is over. Decoyem in and set up funky and you have hours of fun. I did things diffferent around hunting over my spread last year and I produced birds alone every time I went out. Whether it was one or more it was more sastisfactory knowing I used the dekes and was successful. You can still get good shooting in even if they may not seem to cup and land but I have only seen that happen a few times. even if you have the best and most full bodies out in the field you still very rarley get them to land in the spread. take a look at the Zink video. I did not see any come in and land in the dekes. They came close for shooting range and that is what you need.
