I believe it is a Richardson Cackling. Smallest of the Canadian sub-species.

It's look to me like a cackler. My group actually shot 3 the last weekend of the season here in Missouri and we never see them. It was kind of funny, this first group of the day was a group of Giants being led around by this tiny cackler, wish I would have had the video camera with me.
not much bigger than an overweight mallard

I shot a richardsons just like that little fella and I was going to get it mounted but then the freezer freaked out and I lost the little guy. They are so freaking awsome looking especially if you have mallards that are larger than it.

One of my hunting buddies shot one of those this year. It had a blue neck collar on. Its pretty sweet. Its on its way to the taxadermist.

No why thats a cackler! That is a big lesser that is immiture. True cacklers have bills a little bigger than your second nuckle on your thumb to the nail. Just a bigg lesser or somthing i garentee that think weights more than a pound in a half.

Whether it is a taverner or a cackler it is rare...he killed that near one of the areas I hunt....we kill 300+ every year and so do several other gangs of guys we know around us and we never kill taverners or cacklers or anything but monster geese here in PA.
Definitely rare here....I'd mount him too.
