I have a 8 year old black lab sits great in his blind doesn't move tell he is told finds downed birds great even multilpuls BUT i can't get him to pick the bird up and bring it back i have had him since he was 7 weeks old tried wings on a dummy just burys his nose and head in the feathers but won't pick it up is it to late to try something thanks for your help ahead of time

I personally think it is a little late for trying to train him now. I am assuming if he has always done that you havent hunted him much. At eight you dont to need to waist your time. Find you a puppy and start over. It will save you a bunch of aggervation. Good luck with puppy hunting.

I hate to say this but ,"you know its hard to teach a old dog new tricks". But you may have a shot if you make a game out of the training, He trust you, he follows you, he ,does what you say? Play hide and seek games with him and see what happens. May work ,may not. Just remember the age factor. Good luck.
