View Full Version : How do I find a Labrador breeder?

I'm in the market for a new labrador retriever. I've spent hours reading what to expect from a top notch breeder. I then look online and they all look the same, none like the model breeder. I'm sure there are many great breeders out there but how do I find one? My current lab is prone to health problems and allergic to everything, nothing like trying to be quiet when your dog won't stop iching, banging the side of the canoe. I bought her from a "backyard" breeder and I don't want to repeat this mistake again. I need a quality hunting dog but also a gentle one because I have 2 kids under 2 years of age.
I'm looking at having him professionally trained, I've heard if you buy from a breeder/trainer it helps?
Any advice or referals would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Nick

Easy find someone that is local, your in a state that has many trainer-breeders. From there you mention having the dog trained, so get yourself a started dog if you want to finish the dog off yourself. But get a contract and a return policy written in.
Bottom line go see a few trainers and watch there dogs run. Price is always a factor and if you think about the cost over 10 years spending a little more now is peanuts down the road. Don't look at just the papers look at what prevous litters have done. Hips are a crap shoot no matter what.
