i just picked up the newer beretta a400 xplor. the guy at ganer mtn said that the cokes in this gun would interchange w my xtrema 2. so i bought a new kicks choke for her and i thought i was all set for duck. the book on my xplor says that beretta optimachoke HP can only used in optima hp barrels. is this new gun have new chokes and i cant get an aftermarket choke for her? i can post pics later of my chokes if need be

thanks
chris

I purchased the same gun a few months ago. Nothing wrong with the factory chokes, it's throwing some nice even patterns with Hevi-Metal and handloads of Hevi-shot. Start with your factory chokes you might be surprised what they can do.

The mod works fine for decoying ducks, but the full says its not rated for steel ? I would like to use a tighter choke, for pass shooting

Yes they do make a full it's called a mod. You don't want to be throwing non-tox out a a full. Why people fall for all these after market chokes wants me to go out and get a lathe. I could start marketing them myself. But in all sincerity you should pattern you factory chokes first. Is it the cool looks, deafening porting, myself I can feel when my gun has an added ounce and it bothers me.

So give those factory chokes a chance.

I agree, over constricting steel or non-tox with a Full choke can in most cases go the opposite way. You'll end up with un-even patterns, holes and longer shot strings. A modified is as tight as I will go. A lot of those aftermarket chokes that shoot tight patterns are wad-strippers and not constriction type chokes which is a huge difference in design and function.

I agree with BadCaller that you should pattern your stock choke and go from there. I shoot a stock IC choke out of my SBE II and love it. I've tried 5 different chokes and out of all of them it patterns and shoot's the best for me and my load. If you think an IC is too open, think again. I've dropped plenty of birds well past 50 yards with it, consistantly, because of practice and the relationship between me, the gun, load and choke. Not only that but I dont saw birds in half if they happen to be close. =]
