Just picked up a meatcutter off the yard sale and was wondering if tuning it is similiar to tuning a smh? I can pretty much tune a smh with my eyes closed, but thought I'd get some insight on the flute. Let me know... the wife is growing impatient.....

The same principle follows when tuning a meatcutter.....maybe just a bit more finicky though. But you need to get that reed in there best it can fit and then adjust it til it blows the way you like it.

I agree a little tougher to tune than the short reeds. I tuned my buddies and absolutely love it but just can't get mine as good as his.

best thing i can tell you is play around with it alittle bit. i keep my meatcutter turned pretty low (a bit harder to blow too). as long as the reed will dip into the toneboard you should be okay. thens its just a matter of getting the sound you want by exposing more or less of the reed
