Well it is offical boyz I have tinnitus constant ringing of the ears :( It leads many to suicide later in life or people go in and have thier ears shut off, clip'od, nodda, hear no more.
Young guys were ear plugs for every type of shooting you do. I also practice my goose calling in the truck. Wear ear plugs this sucks.
My first meaningful thread in 300 hundred post.

Well i have the same thing, unfortunatly i have some hearing loss also, had it since a child from ear infections. The doc said im lucky to have any hearing at all.....so i try to wear ear protection no matter what i do.......even to run chain saw, well a 20" husqvarna isnt very quiet but you get the point. At 26 years old it really sucks thinking it could be 1 shot away from never hearing my daughter say daddy again. So like hammer said, all you young guys and even old guys, dont think its not cool to wear plugs now cause when its too late, its not cool to be able to hear anything at all.

Yes, they make a mold and then do a hearing test and tune them for your needs. I was really amazed at the difference. If you want me to get you some contact info I will. They are at a bunch of shows so I might be able to get you set up.

with those sport ears can you hear like normal when someone is talking to you and when you are calling and stuff. i cant call well if i have ear plugs in i tried that. i cant hear the call and i dont know just doesnt feel right.
dont quote me, but as far as i know yes they filter out the sudden bursts of sound in milliseconds. some of the guy's at my local gun club use them and they talk all the time without shouting or taking them out.

Hearing loss sucks. At 38 I have some loss in my left ear well both. Since I am a right handed shooter my right ears is some what protected but the left ear takes the full force of the blast. I hate calling with plugs in but you get use to it. Start out with only wearing the left plug to get use to it then try both. Just to let the tough guys ( I am one of them) now how bad it can get how about deign in Canada with birds all over ya and not wanting to pull the trigger because every time you do your head feels like its going to explode and you get sick to your stomach so much so that you have to lean out of the layout and puke. This happened to me last year. I wear plugs while trap shooting and what not but never while hunting for all the excuses all ready stated. Well when the noise has messing with my head so much that I didn't even want to shoot let alone the puking I pulled my head out and started wearing plugs all the time. The bad thing is now I have to wear a plug in my left ear while even running my mud boat as the motor sound will make the left ear ring. Or how about going out with the Lady's and not hearing a darn thing they say because your hearing is so shot the back ground noise in a loud place kills ya, its not fun explaining that you can't hear from self induced stupidness. Do what you want with your own hearing, but you might be wise to take some advice from some of the tough (stupid) guys that came before you.

You can actually hear much better. They are in all reality a hearing aid with an electronic noise supression circuit. They tune them to your hearing loss to make up for deficiencies. You can adjust the volume as well. I can hear my wife on the top floor of our house mumbling when I'm in the basement if I turn 'em up all the way.
The models vary and I got the best ones they had because I figured the money spent now would be worth it 10 years down the road.

Hammer, sorry to hear that man. Now do you have to wear those muffs? It's obviously a good idea.

No its not just a little ring. I hear more of a constant river flow or wooshing sound. When you shoot it feels like your ears are being blown up with a tire pump from the pressure of the shot. Your head feels the same way and it takes a fw days for it to finally calm down to where your back to where you started. Like he said, when your out with someone, for me my wife and all i say is huh, or what 5-6 times for each sentance they say. It can get sometiems annoying for my wife but she has learned to deal with it but it can be embarrising for me as well. So to you guys that are too tough please wear plugs, or those sport ears so you dont get ears like mine. You'll appreciate it 1 day when you have kids.

I had good friend who is in his early 60's. He is totally deaf in one ear and a constant ringing in the other. He has been a hunter all his life. All the hearing damage was from duck or Goose blinds. He is also a physician. Family Practice doc....
A couple of years ago..... he began harping on me to get hearing protection. It took me a while but I finally broke down and spent the money. They were very expensive but I've had mine for 4 years now and I love them. It is different to hear you call through the ear pieces. So you have to practice. I wear them EVERY time I'm in a duck blind or Goose pit without excuse. I also like to shot a lot of sporting clays. So I wear them there as well.

My ears only ring a little during Duck Season and for a couple of weeks there after (Quail). My last woman was tellin me she thought my hearin was gettin worse, and no I wasn't just blockin her out all the time, somtimes I really didn't hear what she was sayin. This year I'm gonna invest in some of those Sonix earplugs. They block out gun shots but you can still hear your buddies talkin and you're callin and they are only $10. I'll trade $10 to be able to hear when I'm older.
