Single vs. Double

Okay guys, I usually blow douvbe reeds and I'm thinking about either getting a DMM, SMM, or a TR in a few months. My local sporting goods store usually only carries the single reed Foiles. I can blow a single reed but I think I control a double better. So my question is what do you prefer for comp. and hunting. Also, can the doubles ring good for comps?

Doubles you cant get that loud loud ring I have a dr DMM love it to death but not a comp call unless its a meet comp then it will be ok.

Drake, the double reed will not ring like a single at all. A double-reed will not work in a regular duck contest, unless it was a real duck/hunting duck competition like FM92 said. You do know that you can switch a SMM or a DMM to a single or double reed right? You just have to get another, shorter reed and a thinner wedge. The shop has them in kits, with the reeds and wedges....1-866-GEESE

I'd got with the SMM if you want a good hunting/contest call. I have a SMM and it sounds good as a single reed or a double reed. It rings quite well as a single reed.

If you're serious about Mainstreet comps...Strait Street is your choice. It's also a good open water call. If you're more looking for a hunting call that can ring..get a SMM in a double so you can use it as a single for open water and as a double for pit type hunting.

I ordered my DMM in double. I wanted to try somthing different so i switched to a single and liked a whole lot better than the double. Way easier to control also. If you want comp style ring than you have to get a single reed in Strait Street, Canadian SMM or just a plain ol SMM. Maybe Foiles can bore out the exhaust on the insert of a SMM which will make it slightly louder. Can Jeff do that? Anyone?

I used to only blow a double. Singles used to be too loud. But now with the wat they got this acrylic down a single is the way to go .I've got a double TR and a DMM single. And the last time I talked to Big Sean he said that the single DMM was the raspiest call they had and boy was he right. DMM single all the way.

i have a DMM double which i LOVE.. but i just bought the single reed set for it.. cant wait to give her a try
