That is Bull Black Duck....or Drake Black Duck depending on where you are from.
Barry:
This mount was done by the same guy that is working on my PA Duck Limit Dead Mount....and the same guy that hopefully will be doing a goose pair dead mount (sometime down the road....unfortunately).
awesome pics, especially the black duck, nice mounts.....

Nice looking mounts, I havent mounted anything yet its just been a matter of cash to do it. I have a cross breed in the freezer that Im thinking bout mounting but IDK I'd really like to shoot a Mallard/Pintail cross like what was in DU a couple of months a go, that bird was sweet.

I liked the mount of the Widgeon, those birds are one of my favorites and a that was a great pose! One of my hunting buds got a Wood Duck box mounted with two Drakes. One on top and the other coming out of the hole. Did an outstanding job with it and has won some awards, I will have to see if he can hook me up with a pic so I can post it.
I also like the idea of the limit of ducks and geese, I assume hanging like from a game strap?? One of the Scheels has a game strap with a drake mallard and drake pintail. Pretty cool.

One of the drake woodies Im holding in my avatar is at the taxidermist now. I cant freakin wait to get it back; Im getting a habitat scene done and it will be my first bird mount. Pretty pumped but it's probably not going to be back til mid summer. Mark- definitely diggen that black duck mount. Classy very classy!

beautiful probably one of best goose mounts i've seen
Killer Miller
02-12-2007, 10:14 PM
Yep, best $90 I ever spent. The guy isn't the best, but he does quality work.....especially at $90 per duck or goose.
I was in his shop last spring and he was doing a full strutting turkye for $300......freeze dried head (the actual head!), legs, beard, the works. He wasn't fully done but if I ever kill a bird early in the season where the fan and wings aren't all worn off from strutting, he's going to the taxy for sure.
Green Reaper
02-13-2007, 12:02 PM
Looks like $90. That guy is really cheating himself. Then everyone wonders why taxidermists cant make a decent living.
Killer Miller
02-13-2007, 03:38 PM
Eric, the only thing I see wrong with my mount is that the legs aren't in the right spot and that's because my x-gf somehow managed to knock it off the wall and the legs got bent back. Man was I pi$$ed!..........and still am. What else is wrong with it?

02-13-2007, 04:43 PM
Sweet Specks! I wish we could shoot them like that in Iowa, the opportunity is RARE. I like the banded honker, your first band?
rushcreekganderlander
02-13-2007, 06:31 PM
The specks are my buddies and he shot them in Louisiana. The banded goose is his too and yes it was his first band.

$90, is that U.S. dollars? I paid almost four times that for the male woodie habitat scene I'm getting done. I may have to put some birds in the mail and give your taxidermist a little more business. I would have had half a dozen mounts by now if I could find a price around here anywhere close to that but the cheapest I found was around $230. That snow is an awesome mount and even better considering the price.
I agree, I wanted to get a black duck mounted last fall and they wanted close to 300, Will he except shipments, How far from MO is he? :)
Killer Miller
02-13-2007, 11:25 PM
Eric, the taxidermist's name is Gary Mead. He owns Mead Taxidermist out of Montrose, Ia which is clear in the southeast corner of Iowa where my dad (and the entire rest of my family) lives.
Farmerkuk, no biggie. Eric (green reaper) is one of my buddy's (Jordan, jclasen0124 on here) friends from when he used to live in Nebraska. Jordan's dad has a pair of woodies and a speck done by either Eric himself or his dad. And I'm here to tell you THEY ARE AWESOME!!! Thanks for defending me though. I love this forum

no it was a licensed taxidermist but i told him how it was and refused to knock down the price so lets just say he doesnt do many bird mounts for basically the reason that he's from my little town of smyrna where everybody knows everybody so i kinda bad mouth his business enough for no one to go there.

I'll be down at my dad's in a few weeks. I'll make sure I take a pic of my uncles geees. He has a snow, blue, and ross all separate mounts but they all together on one wall. They're pretty sweet. One of them is tipping hardcore. I need to get a nice blue and a nice ross to get mounted.
