im fairly new to duck hunting and I don't go out a lot but this past weekend i went to my buddy's cottage in the Thousand Islands near the St Lawrence river. We didn't have any luck in the morning but we moved to deeper water farther away from his cottage. I put out 1 dozen mallard decoys. Shortly later a redhead hen came right to the spread. She was back peddling on the outside of the spread (35 yards away) when I called the shot. 2 out of my 3 shots should have been killed her if I had a IM choke in my gun instead of an IC. But we saw her crash in the river about 4-500 yards away. So we chased her down and I gave her another dose of #3s. It was a mystery duck at first because I hadn't ever seen a red head hen.
