MN grinder, I haven't hunted in Canada yet but me and the boys are going to Alberta this fall with Honk. IMO, I do know alot about the trip and how to get in and out of canada smoothly. So PM me if you have any specific questions. I'm on here several times a day normally, so I'll reply back quickly normally. I'm always willing to help a fellow forum buddy out, as I need help sometimes as well.

For this year only, I think you only need a passport if your flying in but if your driving your still OK with just ID, right? My and the boys are going to Manitoba in Oct so I hope this is right, thats what I told everyone anyways. Next year, its passport for everyone, though. :D
Thats what I have heard too as far as driving, Last time I was back in MI all my friends that go over to Windsor were talking about that. Apparently unless you are flying you just need to make damn sure you have your birth certificate and not a photocopy.......
If you have enough time, I would get a passport, from what I hear it goes ALOT quicker......

Yeah, might be worth it just to get one and be done with it. Gonna need it next year anyway. :D

I should add a couple things: Not all ports are open 24 hours - youget there late and you ain't crossing 'till morning if you choose the wrong port. don't BS about what ya got - you lie and get caught you can count on getting torn all the way down for several years if you try to go back - it isn't worth it. don't kid around - this is national security - if you just gotta say ' the bomb is in the trailer', expect a cavity search.
the previous poster is right - you don't need a passport now until 08 - they were gonna shoot for this year but backed it out a year. I'm not sure a passport really makes it any easier to get back across the border - but it won't hurt...

When we went across last year, we all used our birth certificates with picture ID, but were told that we would no longer be able to do that. The border officer told us that starting in 2007 you would have to have a passport to cross the border.

two weeks for a first-time freelancer is probably not a bad call. Even very experienced fowlers can get a bit stymied in Canada on the maiden voyage. There's a lot to learn - it's not the same game you're used to here, and even after you've been doing it for a bit you can get flustered.
For us, the first year was pretty tough sledding - took us a while to get learn he ropes. the second year, different story all together - we had a great week and it all went much more smoothly...
Have fun. Even if you never pulled the trigger - it'd be worth going to see the show...

for two weeks you are going to be one tired dog by the end of your trip. One tip of advice when you find a field you get permission for and want to hunt. Wait for them to leave the field then find where they were and set up your blinds and put the stubble from the field on your blind. Alot of guys do it in the morning when they get to the field. If you dont your blind will stick out casue everything else will have frost on it except for your blind.

We are going this year too. I think we are aiming for the 8th of Oct or so. I can't wait. None of the guys in the group have done this before. Its gonna be a whole new ball game. 2200 miles, 35 hours. Gonna be alot of Mountain Dew and Nerds on a string.
Anyone know who said that line???
