Hey I want to start comp goose calling but don't know how to begin. I have a flared wood insert and it is pretty loud, don't know if its a comp insert or not but will work as in the jr. comp. I have watched none have comp inserts. How do you find out about competitions in CO and how do you develop a routine. Are there any practice exercises that help you become better? Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

It is a glazed kokobola wood insert it seems easier to blow than the normal one. That site is cool and informative. Also what duck call would you recomend that I could blow in comp and use effectivly in the field that is reasonably priced as I am only 15 and have a very limited budget. Is there anyway to get discounts?

Well that all depends how much you want to spend or can spend.I know that rnt sells some good ones that are somewhat cheap but other than that the good ones are expensive.

I was looking around on some websites and found out that I am just going to have to get a foiles. All calls I was looking at were all about 125 which is what the Foiles are, so I will probably go with them. Can I get a comp barrel with it or will I have to buy it seperate? And what model should I buy? I want to use it in the field and in comp. Thanks.

Well the foiles strait streets is a comp call but also can be used to hunt with, its extrmely loud, but the timber rattler single reed can be just as deadly on both stages,I hunt with a timber rattler and on stage I will be using the strait streets. There all proven to be winners in the field and on stage. There aslo the strait meat mallard too, another good one.Do you have a cabelas or somin near you where you can go and blow on these calls, cause its all up too you.

The strait street has a bored out barrel and there is no duck comp barrels, just goose.

I have heard a lot about the SMM and was wondering about it. Also do you recomend a double or single reed for comp calling?

That would definately be a single reed. And remember...the harder it is tuned...the louder you're gonna be. Always make sure your call is tuned a little harder then you're used to because when that adrenaline hits on stage..you don't wanna be blowin' through your reed and squakin out! SMM has won contests..but if your gonna use it for straight comp callin', I suggest the Strait Street! Very loud on high end..and ducky on the low end! Good luck to ya!
