I guess living where i live you get kinda burnt out on it, 100s of thousands of people flocking to your town to watch the races, traffic is nuts, all the bars are packed, people freaking everywhere, I grew up in Dover, Delaware, Home of the Monster Mile, seen more races than i can remember, my Dad Used to live right behind the racetrack, he was the Concession Manager for the racetrack, and his Roomate at the Time, overseen all the General Contracting to build all the additional stands/seating, so i spent a lot of time in the pits when i was a kid, i guess i was too young to appriceate what it really was, but twice a year all hell breaks loose in town, and i dont even go around that town on race weekend anymore.........not saying anything bad about Nascar...i love all types of racing, but im more of a Drag and Drift guy, and Dirt Track Racing, it takes way more skill to slide a Sprint, Mini Sprint or Micro sideways around a dirt track at 60-70mph than it does to run 200+mph around concrete......But my grandfather built Minis, and Sprints when i was Very Young, hell My dad was the age i am now when he used to build them, and race them, so i guess dirt track is in my blood.....

No offense Richie but aren't all sports a repetitive motion? Basketball- Make a hoop go to the other side and try it again, Football- Touch down lets kick and try it again, etc. So I really hate people saying that just because they don't like it, blinded by their own sport, not seeing that everything is repetition. Be it turning left, or running back and forth trying to score goals.

Derek, hunting is a sport correct ? is hunting repetitive? do you always set your spreads the same or use the same call everytime? and call the same everytime ? ..........not jumpin ya brother just curious.......

If being on a Forum Was A sport i would definately call it Repetitive....lol :D

IowaMigr8tor
02-18-2007, 10:23 PM
Sorry to say but yes hunting is repetitive. You learn to call through repetition.
In response Barry, do you always run the same play do you always run the same set up in your car? No but the end goal is the same no matter how you get there. I never said anything about repetition being a bad thing, I stated that every sport is repetitive when you break it down.

I'm with you Richie...Race car driving is not a sport, The only people that actually do anything close the athletic is the pit crew. Can't stand NASCAR and never will.

Derek
no i dont always run the same play...........thats not my sport. let me clarify this, football, basketball, hockey, socker, ect. thats not my thing,
then again i dont downgrade these sports either. calling yes thats repetitive..........same spreads no...... same calls no.....same shells well maybe..........same hunting partners not always.......so in all reality its not repetitive correct. just seing what your reply meant. its all cool.......

IowaMigr8tor

Let me clarify also that football, basketball, hockey and soccer are not my thing either and I also don't downgrade them. But I also see the grander picture of what every sport is and it is the same thing, no matter what sport you look at. Yes they may be "turning left" but there's a lot of science and math that have went into that care to get it where it is.
What I'm saying is that a sport shows how you can adapt to the situation at hand, you have to learn how to adjust. You learn through repetition, learning through doing things multiple times and having it work, thats psychology for you.
Through some event happening repetitively you have learned either to go with it or against it. Its windy, you have a spread that works great on windy days, so in turn you use that spread on windy days. In the end you are making the same motions to achieve a desired goal. I honestly don't see how hard that is to understand by so many people. Again I'm not going to go around down grading other sports, I simply say thats not my thing but cool and that is always accepted. I don't say well football's stupid because its just a bunch of big oagers in pads hitting each other trying to get a ball 100yds down field, if I wanted to tear it apart, but I wouldn't, however that just prompts me to try and make someone open their eyes to what is going on in every sport. I do my best respect other peoples sports and not try to tear them apart.
You may not think that there is any repetition in Hunting but you should just sit back and look at what is going on every time you hunt. You get up early, go out in a field, set up, shoot birds, tear down, go home, take pics, and clean birds. Now you may omit a step or two and still have a process that is close the same. You don't have to have everything exactly the same, however what you are trying to accomplish is always the same. I don't go out to try and not shoot birds.
Its all cool, I was just trying to open a few eyes because I don't know how many times I've heard that line. Every time someone says that to me they get the same response out of me and they have an epiphany, or an ah-ha moment. I never bashed, until this post, any other sport; only enhanced what is going on in th grand scheme of things.

On a FINAL NOTE the rules to posting on this thread was NO DRIVER BASHING: If you don't like Nascar or racing in general and you decide to bash the sort, indirectly you are BASHING the DRIVERS and it was asked that you refrain from doing so. If you don't like the sport just keep you comments to yourself.

Im not gonna say i dont like it cause its not true, but i wont take the time out of my day to watch it. I see nothing wrong with it. I just had to say that since that is what most of what the announcers say during the race anyhow. I am more into the f1/indy racing since i have friends that work on penske racing. Still same thing right. My problem with the other sports is these guys dont deserve the money they make. If they made less money they would actually play harder and make a more interesting game. Sports in general are becoming rediculous. Even the nhl with their payscale. I used to be a Rusty fan until he retired obviously, so by no means was i trying to trash nascar. And believe me, you wouldnt catch me out there doin that.......those guys got balls to ride bumper to bumper at 180 mph. Hopefully no offense taken Iowa, i knew i would take heat for it but def. didnt want to ruffle any feathers.

nascar is really an exciting sport if u ever have a chance to see one live you'll understand wat its about or better yet have a chance to ride or drive one of the cars then you'll really know wat its about.

Well rules were made to be broken and I thought I would just post my opinion on "YOUR THREAD!" NASCAR blows it doesn't take any athletic ability except you have to hold your piss for three hours, and shift every now and then. Please tell me how this "Driving Get Together" is any kinda sport? You don't run, skate, jump, row etc. You sit in a tricked out car and drive in circles all afternoon and try not to run into anyone (which is my favorite part.) Don't get it...never will but, if you can explain it to me I'll listen. Derek I'm not tryin' to bust your balls but, a thread is meant to be read and opinions are posted on them. It's not like I'm tryin' to make everyone to not like "The Art Of Driving in Circles!"

mdh2ofowler
02-19-2007, 10:59 AM
Mike-
It may not seem like its takes alot of athletic ability, but if you've ever been to the track you'd know that temperatures in those cars can reach upwards of 130 degrees during a summer race, you do gotta hold you piss while at the same time staying well hydrated, and its a huge mental drain to drive in circles for 3-4 hours knowing when to shift, brake let on and off the gas, those driven are straight up worn out when they get out of them cars after the race

Mark Spence
02-19-2007, 11:36 AM
Mike-
...you do gotta hold you piss while at the same time staying well hydrated,...

Brother...if you think for one second, those guys actually hold it....you are truly nutz!!! Omagine pumping yourself full of gatorade for 3 ormore hours...not to mention all the pre-race hydration....do you REALLY think they can hold it???? Them boys do the deed in their drawers...plain and simple!!!! Word on the street is that Tony Stewart wears a diaper!!! Right Kelly????

In addition to what MdH2ofowler said, there is a lot of physical training that goes into racing. They have to withstand the heat and g's produced by their cars for hours, without a break.

I simply requested that you respect this thread and not mottle it up with childish bashing of each other. If you cant exercise some restraint and not post your negative opinion of an interest of fellow forum members, then well there is nothing that any of us can do for you. Yes this is a place for opinion, however we have had too many ridiculous arguments and posts in the last two months. I felt that requesting everyone to respect one another on my thread would avoid conflict but apparently some just can respect that.
