Sorry to hear about your loss. The wife lost her Aunt a month ago to pancreace cancer, she battled that for 17 months.

My first hunt was memorable. 13 yrs old, went with a friend and his dad. Set up along a small pond on the edge of a small wooded area. Sat down next to a fallen tree, and had 5 woodies come in, and 5 woodies stayed. First bird I ever dropped, was when the next flock of 3 Mallards came in, and 1 left, the other two guys were chasin the dog down  Not bad for 13 yrs old?

Don't remember my first duck, but definately remember my first goose, it was 22 years ago, my first waterfowl hunt down on Rend Lake with my father and a good friend of the family, I was using a borrowed 23/4' wingmaster, since I didn't have my own 12 yet only a 20 and we couldn't find steel for it then. Not long after shooting hours we had a suicidal single, come wing into the decoys, and they said take it to me, so I stood up and shot dropping it. I was so excited about my first goose, and it got better, when we retrieved it, it was wearing ***lery.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa, I used to hunt with mine a lot started at age 5 upland hunting with him, he passed from cancer when I was 14, miss him everyday.

I shot my first duck when I was 11 years old with my Rem. 870 20 gauge. My dad took me during youth season in Illinois. A big flock of bluewings came in (30 birds) and after missing my first shot, I somehow caught up with one of the skyrocketing birds and folded it.

My thoughts and prayer go out to you guys....

My first duck was a woody - about 4 years ago. It was also Raven's, my oldest lab, first retrieve. I was sitting on the edge of the lake and had tried and tried to work the couple mallards that I had seen...but obviously to no avail. Another half-0hour goes by and all I can hear is this squealing sound...my first thought - WOODY. I am looking all over the place for this birds and then - HELLO - he's 20 yards out and 5 feet off the water coming directly at me at MACH 5...I pulled up - put the bead on his bill and pummeled him. I blew his bill right off his face...it wasn't pretty. As soon as that bird made the splash in the water...Raven darted out picked up the bird and brought it to me. I couldn't have been a happier camper that day!!!!

As you can tell...I wasn't much of duck hunter...boy have things changed!!!!

Clear day no wind and 3 greenwing teal came into the decoys. Since it would have been my first duck the guy I was hunting with gave me the ok so I jumped up yelled at them so they would get up and unloaded the gun got 2 out of the 3 will never forget it. Gotta love them memories

keep doing what your doing and remember the good times.

my first duck was when I was 14, a couple of my dads buddies , dad and I jumped a nebraska pot hole up north. I had not got a duck yet so they let me shoot first. I got a Mallard drake and a GWT drake in the 3 shots. I wanted to get the GWT mounted but dad told me that I had spent my fun money on my new 870 wingmaster 20ga. still remember that day. cold and Rainy. we got a total of 14 ducks that day. We blind hunted in the mornign and then jumped that pond on the way home. FUN FUN FUN

My first duck came some 12 years ago at Diamond Island in Calhoun, co. Illinois. I shot a wood duck drake w/ my wingmaster 20 ga. behind the blind. My dad was right there for the whole show! He's since hung up the duck call...but we make memories in the deer woods!! Gotta get him back for that 155 in 14 pt. from last season

I am very sorry to hear about your lost brother, cancer is a horrible thing that has taken members of my family as well. I still have to watch my father struggle back and forth with his colon cancer.

As far as my first duck it was nice drake widgeon on my uncles dairy farm. But I would rather tell you about my sons first goose. It happened last week. He is only five and he isnt shooting just yet. But he called in a loner all by himself with a few honks and clucks right into me the other day. I knocked the bird down and he sprung out of his finisher blind. I had to finsh the bird so I kneeled down got a bead and left him touch the trigger off. It ment more to me than any hunting or life expeirnce so far in my 31 years.

God bless you brother our thoughts and prayers are with you...

sorry to hear about your lost, i know how you feel, my grandfather just passed away on 12/28 from cancer.

my first duck was with my older brother and ofcourse my dad, i was 8 and it was a drake woodie, shot it with a single shot shotgun on a wooded pond that my dad had to carry me over 2 water passes to get to because i was to small for waders plus the water was to deep even if i had waders
