If your wanting to stay with a Remington I'd go with the 1187. Got two of them. Shot many geese with a 21" barrel 3 incher before going to Winchester X2 - X3. They are somewhat heavier than most do to having a steel reciever.

870 Super Mag, use for a paddle, bat, bridge... then load it and kill Canadas.

870s make nice guns. it just depends on what your lookin for be it an semi auto or a pump. i know guys who hunt with both and like them. bein used to the 1100 u may like the 1187 better.

870 Super Mag. I have owned one for years and it has never failed me. The 870 is my favorite shotgun. Very reliable. They really are a work horse. I've hunted and killed lots of ducks/geese, rabbits,Turkeys and even deer with one and have never had any dilemmas with it. Just my preference. :D :D :D

I like the remingtons and if I had to choose I would get the 1187 SuperMag. But look into the Benelli SBE2, performance worth the price.

My dad was at Wal-mart last night and they were having a close-out on all their guns. He said he coulda got a super mag 11-87 for $380 brand new!! Even though he has 2 SBE's, I told him he was an idiot for not buying one just to have cause they were so cheap. How much would that gun be normally? $600?

I've owned both the 870 & 1187 sp & both of them ended up breaking. In defense of the 870 i put about 7-800 rounds a month through it for 2 years of shoot comp's. Then the action bars wore out on it.

The 1187 worked great until i started shooting 3 1/2's through it. The link would break every couple rounds. Remington replaced the gun after the 3rd link. That gun did the same thing & i only shoot factory stuff. I love the way that they fit me, but i need a gun that wont break on me in the duck blind every few rounds.

I just bought a SBEII LH and i will never own anything else. If you just looking to shoot 3" check out the M1 or the Nova.
