I want to try and tell you all how my hunting will be when I hunt on my own. Ok here we go. I have some uncles who farm on a 2,000 acre farm. Mostly wheat, corn, and soybeans. I love it there when it comes to deer hunting and turkey. But they have awesome geese numbers as well. They have two huge strip pits. One is about 10 acres. The other is wider and probably have about 20 acres there. They have ducks there to. The geese who roam around there is a huge flock. Probably about 900-1,000 geese there. They seem to like it there and never leave. What they do is fly from the river and corn fields in the bottoms, and head straight to the strip pits in the morning. Then about 5pm they head back to the fields and river for the night. How do I hunt them??

Thanks.

My opinion, stay off the pits. It is a daytime loaf area for them. Leave it alone. Get out on the field and catch them when they leave. But I'd let the pits serve as a refuge to ensure you have geese throughout the season.

I have to agree with H20 on this one. Stay away from the pits so they can rest and feel safe there. Do some scouting and find out where the birds are headed and shoot them in the field.

If you hunt their loaf area, be prepared for one maybe a few good hunts. After that, they'll find another loafing area with no hunting pressure.

I would concur with the advice above and hunt the fields surrounding the pits.
