I have been a big Winchester fan, and this year I'll be trying out Xtended Range Turkey loads for my Winchester 1300 12 guage this year. So when my season starts might have to use the Xtended Range Waterfowl Loads.

So whats your choice?

used to like the 3" tungston matrix, but price rose way to much for me to shoot that. Fast steel #2 and BB

Hey Derek,

I bet it took you longer to find the links than it would have taken you to type Federal BB 3.5". Don't ruin a thread in the off season we need all we can get. Plus maybe it's a new guy!

Kent Fast Steel is a good economical load. Estate shells on the other hand seem to use some nasty propellant that will fowl the gas sytem on autoloaders rather quickly  So it seems to me.

When your like me and keep shootin till you hear the click...then you have to go with cheap shells....

When you have a Benelli (recoil operated), you don't have to worry about $hit like that. :D

Xpert Hi-Vel. and Fasteel. I shoot all fast loads....3 inch 1 1/8 oz. @1550 and 3 1/2 inchers 1 3/8 oz. also @1550fps. BB's and 1's on geese.....2's, 3's, and 4's on ducks

I would recommend trying to shoot all your waterfowl loads at the same velocity, jsut one less thing to figure in......like if you're shooting 1350's at geese and 1550 at ducks. This could really screw up your lead.....I think it happened to my dad this year. He jsut throws whatever shell into his gun and shoots it. He won't be doing this next year.

I agree. Stay consistent.

 28 gauge, 2 3/4", 3/4 ounce, Bismuth 6's at 1250 FPS.

Occasionally. It's not my go to gun but we do a couple hunts a year with them.

I can't wait to get the 28 on a turkey this year! Taking my son and hope to get it on video.... Can you say ultimate challenge!

Killer Miller

My go-to gun/weapon is a nerf bow and arrow with poison tipped muzzy broadheads on the tips of the foam arrows

How light is the 28 gauge turkey load? 3/4 ounce? How close do you think they gotta be to kill one? I've killed 6 toms, 4 of them being within 25 yards. So if you're range is 20-25, I think you'll be fine. The other 2 I have shot were not called and decoyed in, the other 4 were and they were within 5 yards of my decoys. I think the bird I killed 3 years ago was about 12 yards.

i always go with xperts 3.5" BB for geese and sometimes 3.5" 2's as well, or 3" 4's for ducks

I'm staying with the consistency and shooting the same Bismuth that I shot at geese.

My longest shot on a turkey was 15 yards. I'm confident with anything inside 30 yards with that 28 though. I don't see the load being the challenge. It's keeping my son quiet, still, and yet excited enough to enjoy the hunt.

How old is your boy? Has he killed yet? You better throw some pics up if he cranks one. When does your season start? Ours starts the 16th of April, which is a Monday. I'll be out with my bow trying to get a bow kill.....I'm gonna tape it.

G turns 5 tomorrow.

He has recorded his first kills on ducks, teal, and geese already. All with daddy's help of course. I kneel and point the gun holding it secure and attempting to keep it on target. He stands to the side of the gun between my arms and looks down the barrel. When he likes what he sees he squeezes the trigger. By no means are we batting 1000. But he has a ball and will point out which birds are his, and how many daddy missed.

He was in the Blind with me at 18 months.

At 2 years he was calling teal into the decoys.

At age 3 he shot his first teal and goose.

At age 4 (last season) he called teal into the decoys, then squeezed the trigger. He ended up shooting 12 teal in 3 day weekend. With a season total of 21 ducks (teal, woodie, gad, and redhead) and 4 geese.

Yeah I know the nelli's are supposed to be the best but I've seen a couple of them malfunction also. :( I just stay away from the cheap crap and keep the Super X's clean and don't have any problems.

Well there's no shotgun out there that NEVER jams. But I was stating that you don't have to worry about certain kinds of shells guming up the gas system because there isn't one in Benellis.
