Try putting your tonge into your bottom teeth.put alaranix in to the call. That way you can put your chatter and quacks in and lonsome hen's in with your feed call. The middle of your tonge is really going. Try gugugugu for a quack stretch the guuu.Good luck

It's all in the practice.... tica..tica.tica.tica..aint..tica..tica..tica..aint

gives that nice rollin feeder w/ some quacks mixed in. When this is blended right...it's tough to beat!

I also flutter my tounge rather than say tica..tica. I can do both but I prefer to flutter my tounge, it is fast and easy once you learn how to control it so it sounds ducky.

yeah that rolling feed chatter does sound awesome, but it is really not needed in the field to call ducks if you can just chuckle that'll do fine, but if your planing on calling contest then ya your gonna wanna it, but yeah its gonna take ya alot of practice, and stick with it and dont give up and youll get it

Thats just how I learned to duck call. I didn't use any instructional materials, I just imitated what I heard in the blind and what I heard the ducks doing.
I like to flutter my tounge cuz for me it is sooo much easier than saying tica in the call, but then my buddies think it is hard so stay with what you like.

yep iowa is right if you do what the ducks are doing thats is what they are gonna want to here and that is whats gonna make them cup and commit to your spread

dont get in the habit of fluttering, it has no place in the field eccept for divers, unless you can flutter slow enough.

I can flutter at different speeds. It sounds exactly like a feeding mallard, it is crazy. You just have to train your self. I can do the tica..tica way but I am better at a slow-medium flutter. Killed some big greenheads this year doing the same feeding call, we were in a pressured marsh here in central Iowa and could pull ducks off of other decoys and calls just by hitting the feeding "chuckle". Both of us had SMM and were using the exact same technique and it slayed um'.

yeah i didnt mean flutter i dont like that, just do what the ducks are doing listen to them and listen, they will tell ya what the want

I think what you guys are talking about is the single cut feed....so that is what I am going to answer towards. I use the single cut in the field with little drag quacks mixed inbetween. Getting the single cut feed, I use the word "shook" and string em together to get a natural sounding feed that sounds like ducks on the pond. Hope this helps...

what would you use in a competiton, some of them guys make it sound like an old crank machine gyn.

I use both types in my routine. The single cut stuff starts me out and I make that faster and blend it in to the rollin with drag quacks and other little single cuts in there bouncin' around and then when slowing down before my build up and again before my lonesome hen at the end.

From what I have been told, feed is not judged all that heavily, but it still needs to be strong. To demonstrate control of the call and to sound more like a duck is why now I use the single cut mixed in with the rollin style.

I do the same deal myself. I've also heard that feed isn't that heavily judged. I know guys that do it a hell of a lot faster then some and they don't win any more then the other guy. It's all about being loud and fluid!

so basically I can go in there and do 1 series of feedin noises and the rest be quacks.

Nick McArthur

Not quite, but close....in my routine, I use drag qwacks when doing my feed, and then it slows down a bit and I do 2 strings in there, and then back on with a little more feed.

It needs to be more feed than qwacks, and the feed, though not having to be great needs to be strong, and still show you have control of the call.

Do ya think A guy has to go so fast in a competition doin a feedin call like some guys do. or just have to have control and be consistent.

Nick McArthur

Definitely control and consistency....

Nick McArthur

Try keeping your tongue behind your teeth and saying th word "shook". The action should come from the back of your tongue, giving you a short abbreviated quack that sounds like ducks loafing/feeding.

Start slow......in fact when I use this in hunting situations, I don't roll it over at all, just change the inflection to sound like different ducks......hope this helps....

SMOKE - Try picking up a single reed and see if it makes it any easier. If your legend is tuned like mine it takes a ton of air to blow a good sounding feed.
