I would roughly go with a split of 70 % feeders to 30% actives. There is no specific answer. The only thing I would be sure of is that I had more feeders than actives for the obvious reason of not wanting to have all of my decoys on "alert" mode. Since you have several decoys visibilty is not really an issue because they are gonna see a spread like that. So it would not bother me to have a very large percentage of those as feeders.

Heres my input,Im not a pro but I usually put less feeders than lookers because all the times I have watched geese land with geese there all lookin around and not feedin, sleepers dont get up they stay down, this is all I have seen

Personally...I like a 60 / 40 or 50/50 split of feeders vs. actives. It gives me more options to hunt different spots and in certain situations it calls for more active style.

Just my opinion.

EDIT: I misread your post the first time....I thought it said if I was going to buy 10 dozen....

If I was going to put out 10 dozen....I put them out as I saw the birds in the field when I scouted them. If there were more "active" looking birds in the field, then I would put out more "active" looking decoys. If the majority of the brids were feeding, then I would make my spread with the majority of birds feeding.

There is no "cure all" spread. But a wise man once told me..."Perfect Imitation = Perfect 'Limit'ation".....set it like the brids were in the field when you scouted....that's why I said I like a 60/40 or 50/50 ratio so that I have the options to set my spread like the birds were in the field.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!!!

I'm personally w/ spence on the 60/40 split of feeders vs. actives. Throw in some shells to..... Just my 2 cents!

I wouldn't worry to much as to the ratio of feeders to others, and pay more attention to how the birds set up in the fields. If feeders made that much of a difference than all the decoy comp. would make feeders and nothing else. We run 55 doz. pro series silos, and 20 doz. bigfeet in two different rigs, the different poses make a bigger difference than one pose alone.
