Stop banding snows?

had a friend go on a trip this year for snows, he shot 11 and two of them had neck collars, otherwise i high doubt they would stop banding them, they might just not band as many.

They stopped neck banding snows and blues in 2003, but they still neck band ross. I guess they are doing a big study on white necks bands for ross to show human predation to pick out neck collars. As for leg bands they still do that.

Hey Buff I heard the same. My buddy killed an all white neck collar. And they told him when he reported it that are going with all white bands now. They said the biologists can still read the #'s, and keeps the human pressure down. Good idea.

that seems dumb....... if the biologist can read them.... arent hunters going to be able to see them?????? i guess i think it wouldnt make a hole lot of difference.....

i've gotta pic from this season of one.....they are pretty had to see. When my buddy shot it he didn't know it ever had a collar on it until he went out to pic it up. And due to the size I would have to say it's hard for a boilogist to read the numbers on them anyway. But who knows.

here's a pic of the ross that greg spoke of. if i were hunting with a dog that day i never would have known i shot a neckie.........when it hit the ground the collar popped right off. the second pic shows what it looks like from just a little distance and other birds in the pic. definately hard to see.

no the neck band was still intact......i guess he was a little far when i shot him :oops: it just fell off from the smackdown.

Answer me this, I've never seen one, are they a continous ring that snaps shut, or does it slip over the birds head? May sound like a dumb question, but never seen one up close.

neck bands are overlap glue'd, they overlap about 1/4 " after gluing.
