we only use about 6 GHG when hunting locals, than when the migration moves in use anywhere from 1 to 4 doz GHG depending on how many ducks we see.

All depends on what type ya hunt, where you hunt them, how ya gonna get them to your spot, and last but not least how many sheckles you got saved.

OK! Where are you hunting?(River, swamp, pond) What ducks to you see/shoot?(try to get decoys of the species that you shoot/see.) Whats your budget? (You need to set a budget for decoys, then each year add a few more. Then after a couple years start replacing.)

Mallards and Blacks are good universal duck decoys!!!!

also what time of year, if its the opener go with fewer decoys. I like to go with more hens then drakes, a mojo is always good. also add in to goose decoys they make awsome confidence decoys, put them off to the side if possible.

I would get some mallards, gadwall, and teal. Woodducks are good decoys, but on body makes one that looks good. a couple buffleheads are great too. They add some white to the spread and the are very common.

Heres one my buddy shot...only got him one mallard, and a couple honks that day, i think i only got one of the honks but it was really neat, he snuck in on us, and my buddy plucked him on the water, as you can see the unmistakable red dot on his head, was the only pellet that hit him, laid him out cold...hes supposed to be getting him mounted i cannot wait till he gets him back..

For water hunts your best bet if you have Geese around is to run Goose floaters and mix ducks in. Ducks will almost always flock to Geese cause Geese are more weary than ducks.

I am going to be mixing pintails in this season for the fact of divers. I noticed a guy using alot of Pintails in his spread and he was shooting everything from divers to puddle ducks.

Just my $.02

for divers maybe put out 10-20 mix of bills and ringnecks. for puddle ducks i will use up to 5-6 dozen depending on water size. All green heads but moving on to hand made/painted gunning deeks for moving water. As far as a duck goes for all around situations in my area, mallards, black ducks, and ringnecks. thats a good mid to late season mix. Late season blacks and ringnecks or bills works good. mallards will stay in the bag this year.
