I am looking at getting a credit card here within the next few months and I am wondering what advice on a card you have for an 18 year old. I am only planning on having one or two at the most, I want something so I can build up my credit. I dont need one with a big spending limit cause I dont want to spend that kind of money on a credit card cause I know the trouble they can bring. I just want something to build my credit. I was thinking one like the Cabelas Club Visa so I can get some free gear for my purchases. So anyways what cards do you guys recommend, who should I stay away from.

cabelas is a cool one......
pretty much try to find the lowest rate you can get.....
One is probly enough if your looking to build up some credit..

I love credit cards. I have never ever paid one nickel to interest but just cashed over 700.00 in checks from credit card companies.
The best one I have is Bank of America Plat plus which pay back 2% cash on all purchases.
I also use a Chase card that pays 5% back on gas groceries and pharmacy items.
Citi card has one that give you 100 bucks for just opening the account.
You have to decide if you want to be on the paying or being paid part of the equation.

i would definitely only get ONE card...less trouble and it is all you really need...like hammer said get one with rewards and make sure its as low interest as possible

I would get as many as possible from JC Penny to Best Buy to the American Express Black card. I'd then run them bastards up and never pay a dime on them. Next change your name and SS#, that can be done on the black market! Have some fun with it! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I own two credit cards, three if you count my check card. I only carry my check card. the other two are used for emergencys! I hate bills!!!
be very careful with credit cards, especially at your age!

If this is your first time getting a credit card you will not be able to get a cabelas card. they require that you have another credit card allong with good credit for one year before you can get one. i found that out last year. i just got my cableas card. being that this is the first time getting a card there is little chance that you will be able to get one with rewards being that your only 18. i gotmy first card last year. it was with citi. they had a student card you could get. i would check with that and then get one with rewards when you can!
hope this helps

contrary to popular belief you don't need a credit card to build your credit so I wouldn't get one for that reason....if you have a car payment, rent/lease an apartment, have a job, college loans, etc. all of these are ways to become more credit worthy....if you're disciplined with the card you'll be fine, but most times people do more damage than good getting a credit card

Thanks for all the help guys, I posted this on a couple other forums I am a member of and the one concensus is to keep the limit low like $500 and to pay it off every month and that cash is king, which I realize but if I am want to develop real estate and build homes I know, I am going to need good credit. I learned from my dad to pay off a credit card every month so that is what I intend to do. Any purchases I make with the CC I will make sure I have the funds in my bank account to fund the purchase other wise I will wait until I have enough. money.

check out capital one, they offer credit building cards.
yes! pay it off every month. the last thing you want to do at you age is to be in credit card debt. I always make sure i pay mine off every month. you would be surprised how fast things accumulate on a credit card.
