Black Ducks

Well I was just bored of lookin at the same topics so I decided to make one. Im from Missouri and dont ever see black ducks,so im asking what fly zone do they fly? Maybe next duck season if someone would let me come hunt with them,maybe I can get one. I am planning a trip somewhere next year but I dont know where and would really like a black duck, just to have mounted I have never even seen one in real life. They just dont come through here.

It's rare..but we killed one this year in Calhoun Co. Il. Pretty duck, but I was not the lucky recipient. They're around just not very common.

We have a couple that stay at a local park, other than don't see too many.

we hunt in the mississippi fly way in central Illinois and usually end up getting one or two a year, they are pretty rare , but are a nice addition to the bag.

We have killed a few of them here in NW PA. My huntin partner PAgooser even killed a $100 reward banded black duck from Ontario here this year!

Here in West Ne and Eastern Co i never see them at all.

Fellas....Fellas....Fellas....around home, say end of Nov. through end of Dec. (deeper into Dec. the better) those beautiful are everywhere!!! We have more blacks than mallards!!! It is very typical to go out duckin' in those months and come back every time with your limit of blacks (1 bird). They are a very pretty bird and a very finicky bird....picky, picky, picky. But when they work a spread it is a very pretty sight!!!!

Just gimme a holler if you are ever out this way that time of year...I am pretty POSITIVE we can put on a black duck or two!!!!

Now....to turn this around....you boys from the midwest see Pintails / Sprigs all the time. I have been doing this for going on 8 years and have yet to see a bull and I have only seen two hens!!! So...I know what it feels like!!!

black ducks are the unofficial state duck of NJ......

we have tons of them...trouble is the limit is only 1. Ours don't migrate, they live here year round ...I watched a whole bunch of them yesterday..

Here in Delaware on the marsh and rivers we're loaded with them. Have even killed them field hunting for ducks.

I got an overload of them in my area of PA as well and have to very careful the first 30 mins in the morning with what we are shooting at because they tend to out number the mallards on some days. If your ever out this way your more than welcome to sit in blind boat a couple days.

I hunt the Delaware marshes by Odessa. They are a really weary duck, seen come right in just as preety as it could ever get, an the next flock would land 30 yards off the decoys. There around here all season long.They seem to like to eat little crushsations that is in the mud banks cause we always seem to see them sitting on them. In my opinion there wing patch is more colorful than one of a mallards. It really sinks that the season is closed cause i was hunting the snow geese on the river and had to watch every bit of a couple thounsand ducks flying around heading back up to canada.Mallards, Blacks,Pintails,Gadwalls. :cry:

Spence,here in Missouri there here very early in the season,which means threre not fully plumaged and they have no sprigs,but I guess you can say if yur lucky you can get one late in the season like I did. There usually 1 or 2 with like 500 mallards.Where is it that you live at?

Northwest corner of PA...the ducks we kill around home are mostly woodies, mallards, GWT, a few BWT, and blacks. We do get a good variety of divers on Lake Erie, but I cannot stand hunting up there (long story).

I hunt in a few of the same places as muntz does and like he said we do see a few of them. i was in on killin one last season.

i hunt the thousand acre marsh here in delaware and there are a ton of them there my friend shoots alot of them every year

We don't start seeing any blacks until everything is frozen up and we are hunting the spring holes. The club I guide at will have one for every ten mallards when that happens.

We have also killed them out of the corn fields. We hunt some power plant lakes and you will get a pair fall in on occassion. They are kind of fickle and hard to decoy.

This year in Delaware, I saw more black ducks then I did Mallards. They are truly wary birds, problem is the limit is 1. Many times it's difficult not to shoot over the limit.

Isnt it dumb how the Missouri limit is 2 black ducks and we dont ever see them.

Duckmanlll was just woundering where ya hunt in Delaware? I hunt Blackbird Creek. Thats by the Apaqinamic marsh on Route 9.

We get a about the same amount here in Central Indiana where we hunt mainly, about a dozen seen each year, we've been fortunate enough to kill a couple each year. I had a big fat beautiful drake mounted 2 years ago. I think besides a nice pintail, the black duck is the best trophy. We shoot quite a few wood ducks here, they are pretty too.

man our mallerd season sucked this year but i shot my 1 black duck per day limit pretty much every weekend still have not gotten a band though

I hunt the Might Miss with my dad and uncle. We normally shoot a few each year, I got my first poke at one this year. Me and my uncle both pulled the trigger and it fell. My uncle says usually he picks them out of flocks of mallards.
