Have any of you guys tried that new load from Envoirmetal Inc. They make this stuff called DEAD COYOTE. It is the original producer of Hevi Shot.3 1/2 T Shot, By far the most devastating thing i have ever seen. Bought it at the beginning of the season and never used it. Was saving it to use on the snow geese and man does it work. Dropped one dead from over 100 yards, and i know because we range finded it. Was just wondering if anyone has tryed this or hunts foxes and coyotes with it because that is what it was intended for?

I have used it on red fox. It is a great load for callin just dont get em in too close it will tear up a hide at anything under 20 yards when run through a PatternMaster. Havent tried it on birds yet seems kinda spendy for shootin them.

It's a good load to put in for your last shell when they're on the way out! Saves money and is a little overkill for birds on their first shot.

Great for yotes, but I think I will stick to my winchester and remington steel shot.

I've been hearing alot of stuff about this new "Dead Coyote" load. Kent makes it right? I also heard that it patterned really good and tight out of a Pattern Master. Is this true? Because I wouldnt mind getting a box to try out on snows that won't get any closer than 50 or 60 yards. Need some input thanks boys.

Killer Miller,
It is made by Envirinmental Inc, the people that make Heavy Shot. I don't know how it patterns through a PM, the people that I know who use it are shooting Yotes with it, and using mofified and full tubes. It is awfully expensive to take snow goose hunting in my opinion, but if you wan't to try it go ahead, let us know how it patterns with your PM.

I have never even thought of this. I have some dead coyote for coyote hunting.
When in manitoba it is easy to get in the snow goose flight path but they are at 60 yards.
Would it be sky busitng if you shoot that stuff at 60 yards? Heck they claim it will kill a coyote at 100 yards.

The thing I wonder about it is this.
Usually the Coyote is either still or running at 15-20 MPH, where as the Goose at 60 yards is Shooting up and they are often traveling well in excess of 50 mph, I am not sure of the published velocity or KE of these loads, or the rate it drops off. I am sure at standard ranges the Dead Coyote loads will nock them stiff, but not sure how well it would perform at flying geese at extended ranges. Plus if the geese start getting knocked down out of the flock at 60-80 nyards when they are taking a look, I wonder how that will educate them.

It patterns extremely well out of PatternMaster. I got approx 90% in a 20" circle at 50 yards from my SBE 2.

seriously its a coyote load it may kill birds clean but it probably wrecks the meat on them. why would you need to shoot geese at 100 yards anyway. becaus you cant callll??

Easy brother...no need to throw around insults here. Everyone can use whatever they see fit. I personally don't think it's a bad 3rd shot for those birds that are gettin' up and out. I think everyone is entitled to use whatever they see as fit and legal. Let's just leave it at that for now.

I disagree with the calling comment. And I know I am going to catch a lot of grief as this is a call forum. I have killed just as many geese in my face with the call at my side as I ever have blowing it.
There are so many factors that will determine a successfull goose hunt: location, concealment are first 2. After that I would bunch up decoys, calling, and flagging. As on any given day one of those three may make you, or break you.
But my no means am I going to say I haven't taken a 90 - 100 yard shot. And I can tell you when. I take a group of guys out and they don;t get clean shots on the birds to begin with. That's when the designated hitter comes out and those long shots happen.Having said that it doesn't happen very often. But when it does I am throwing 3 1/2" of Heavyshot B's at them and stoning them at 100 yards.
When I am hunting. 3" #2's at 1500fps (or 1550)

Amen
To each is their own. I like backing up my 3" shells for duck with a 3.5" in the case of winged bird getting out too far.
I think too many people like to use hunting forums as a place to get on their "high horse". This site has seemed like more of a teaching and learning tool than a bashing site and that is why Ive enjoyed visiting Foiles more than any other forum. Lets keep it that way!!

Mndiver, yeah I can call but snow geese are probably the wariest waterfowl bird out there. And sometimes it doesnt matter how good you are on a call for snows, somtimes they just won't drop enough altitude to shoot, even with several E-callers and a bunch of mouth calls going. Sorry for wanting to try something.

Guys Im sorry if I made myself sound like all the geese I shoot is from 100 yards away. The snow geese where we hunt are exteremly wary and smart. It just happened that they saw us and shied off, my dad said try them so I did and 1 droped dead out of the flock. We usally only get to shoot them on really windy days when they fly with in range, but when we heard you could bust coyots from 100 yards we had to give it a try. Plus we found it at Cabelas for $20 a box. Far as calling geese goes Im fine in that department. Didn't mean to make myself sound like a guy that likes to takes shots out of range and wound birds! :?

Anyone try the heavy Steel? I believe made from the same company who makes dead coyote.

When huntin snows you have to kill them at the ranges they dictate. We don't get tons of snows in my part of TX, but on the coast a 50 yard shot is considered average. They need to be killed so kill em' however you can. I am not condoning skybusting, but you can't kill them if you don't shoot.

Had 3 shells for the early season. Used all 3 shells on cripples walking wayyyyyy outside the spread and it saved running them down as we don't have dogs. Other than that I personally don't have a use for them, not saying I wouldn't take 'em on a snow goose hunt if given the chance..
Views on this type of us usage? :?:
