This was taken on my father in laws place in southern Iowa. The DNR has collared several cats on his land in the past couple years. They see them a bit down there. I sure hope they open the season on them next year. I cant tell from this picture if this one has a collar or not???? I blew up the picture and it looks like he does... What do you guys think??
Thanks
Dave

The way his hair sticks up around his neck just behind his ears makes it look like he has a collar. Not sayin he does or doesn't, just tellin' you what I think.

I agree. My buddy has about 160 acres down in Decatur County and they have had at least one siting of a bobcat for per year for the past 3 or 4.

Are cats that rare in Iowa :?: Pretty common here in Kansas. I've caught 19 of them on the creek next to my house the past several years :!:

I was talking to two different people this week at work who both thought there were no mountain lions in Iowa and that it was just a big bunch of crap. I saw a track out bird hunting one day and told the farmer. About a week later a mountain lion got hit by a car about 3/4 a mile away from were I saw the track. It made it in the paper. I dont know why some people dont beleive they are here in Iowa.

Just ask your local DNR, I'm sure they'll tell they aren't. IN my area, the DNR says there are no big cats, even though every year you hear of a sighting. In my hometown, homeowners have seen their dogs chase cougars out of the yard, and even pictures have been taken, but the DNR there also claims there are no big cats. What do we pay our license fees for?

What do we pay our license fees for? Kansas Wildlife and Parks says the same thing. They have been documented in all four bordering states, yet they still say no.

Bobcats are a dime a dozen around here. They are very common. In the predator contest this year there were like 12 killed. One of my neighbors just from poop in his yard, and VDGIF tested it and it came back at a feral hog. We dont have this often in VA

Alright here's a story. My brother -n- law had been itchin' to kill a bobcat for years. About 4 years later, he finally sees one ( a female, approx. 18-20 lbs.) and kills it with a .243 . He was on cloud 9, ecstatic! The very next day he sits in his box-blind and low and behold...another bobcat ( a male approx. 35-40 lbs.), kills it at almost the exact location he killed the female. 2 bobcats in 2 days after not seeing one in years!!! Wait... it gets better - About 45 minutes after shooting the 2nd bobcat a 10 Point buck walks out and guess what....? - He kills that too! Not a bad 2 days of hunting, huh? God Bless Texas!!!! :P
