just wondering what everyone is using for snow goose decoys. working on increasing my decoy numbers curious as to what everybody likes to hunt these things over.
right now we're hunting over about 1500 dekes
carry lite one piecers on motion stakes
higdon stackables
g&h mag shells on motion stakes
old a$$ rubber shells
g&h mag full bodies
outlaws not many though dont like them for snows
g&h henryettans
carry lite mag shells
flambeau canadian full bodies w/diff heads
about 10 dozen wind sox
we're not big on the wind sox wanting to replace them with hard decoys and as always add more of something

use rags, we have a lot of full bodys around the pit, but you need motion to kill these birds, you are spending to much money for not a high number of decoys, the more decoys the better you are.

we have rags, they stay in the shed. they will not work where we are for some reason. ive talked to you about all this before demaster. about 75% of our decoys are on some sort of motion stake so we have plenty of movement. we killed some yesterday, they are on the move in southern il.

what is your real name, collinsvile ILL boy, I dont think that is true, you have to have motion to kill birds. Higdon stackables are the best I have found so far, or the full body GHG snows and bules.

Well this is gonna take a while cause I hunt with about a dozen guys and we put a spread up and leave it for the whole season. I'll jsut say this: It takes about 5 or 6 guys all day to put it out and we don't even put all of them out at once. We no longer put any texas rags out.
-About 60 or 70 flyers (goose magnets and the northwinds with wings) on poles anywhere from 3 to 10 feet high
-About 2,000 wooden silouettes we made a few years back hand painted snows and blues( we burned up 3 jigsaws making them!)
-500 or 600 hundred miscellanious shell decoys, mostly carrylites
-About 200-250 full bodies. mostly carrylites and some bigfoots with goosegloves on them
-500 or 600 windsocks with heads
-300 tyvek windsocks without heads
This is why we don't use rags anymore. These numbers are estimated. If anything, we have more than I said. Im jsut going off of what my dad said they put out at first. He said they put out about 3,000 and that was no rags and probably wasn't all of our other decoys. Plus almost everyone that hunts has a E-caller. On the weekends that are good, we have 10 guns and 10 callers going!!

About the E-callers, in the past few years, we have noticed that they get shy of them. As they get closer, we crank them way down and if that isn't working we get on our snow goose mouth calls. My uncle has a tundra saver and I've seen him turn and bring birds in just with it!! I gotta get one.

we put out a couple hundred shell & windsocks, a couple magnets,,
we hunt flooded fields and we have to walk in so we are not willing to make all the trips back & forth for full bodies

I guess I'd go for realism before size. I mean -- we would never even think about using rags for Canadas! Why use them for ultra smart -- billions of eyes -- tundra munchers? I just wish we could put out 1000 FBs!

thanks now at least i know im not the only one that doesnt like those noisy trash bag lookin things. we try for realism, and most of the birds we shoot are 10-25 yards.

Cutem, thats great getting them that close. With my group if we think we can kill a few, we start shooting. I bet our average range is 40 yards, myabe a little bit closer. I'd like to get them that close, but its tough. A hard south wind for a few days and they want to decoy better cause they're tired.

like you said about the ecallers, killer, you really have to mess with them sometimes, and a lot of times turn em of and call them. the guy next to us just leaves his blaring, generally the geese come to us first then go look at his spread and come right back to us. most of the time locked up and coming down, then its just a matter of adjusting that caller and being very patient.
