Ok, The question was brought to me on how one describes tuning a call. Lets say, for a beginner....tight...light..., seasoned ...medium...loose, competition....hard...way loose. If your confused, then what I mean is if I sent my call in to be tuned for a beginner...what would I say or describe it as to the the shop? Tune it light, tight, loose, I do not know how to describe it to anyone else. Oh, and I have never seen it posted anywhere, although it probably has and was curious. Yeah, I am new to the game, and I just want to get my facts straight.

Calls come from the shop to order tuned rather light, and by light it means that it takes less air to run the call and there is less reed showing making it eaiser to blow. Also, when the call is tuned lighter it will generally have a higher overall tone. The harder a call is tuned, the more air it takes, and generally the the overall tone is lower (not significantly lower, but lower). A harder tuned call has more reed showing above the wedge.

If you are a beginner, rule of thumb would be to have it tuned lighter to get rolling on the call and improve the basics (clucks, moans, growls, etc). and progress to a harder tuned call.

I hope this is what you are looking for, but if it is not, post up again and we will try and get is "strait."

FYI-->If you want to get a little crash course on how to tune a call, got to the Ask the Pro-Staff Section and under the thread "Meat Grinder Tuning" you will find a bit as to how to tune a call on your own if you want.
