I am looking into ways to help protect my duck decoys. I have heard of people using the krylon spray paint for this. Some people say it helps, others warn of a yellowing effect afterwards.

Curious if anybody here as any first hand experience or knows of what one may do to help with the wear?

I've never done it personally, but I know someone who did. He got about 2 seasons out of it before it started to yellow. To me it is not worth it. Just buy quality dekes to begin with, and then maintain them, at least it's worth maintaining them. Another thing would be to invest in the slotted decoy bags to help protect them from banging around.

quality decoys are not the problem.... :) Just looking for ways to extend them. Appreciate the reply!

I wouldn't spray them either, besides yellowing it just doesn't look natural. I would just recomend you take care of them, don't throw them around, don't leave them out in the weather for extended periods of time, I usually clean any mud and grime off mine when I get back, if it is possible. What dekes are you using? are they flocked?

I am not so much worried about my goose decoys. I run 12 doz GHG, 7 doz BigFoot, 2 doz Higdon, 2 dozen Flambeau, 1 dozen G&H, 4 dozen sillys, have a variety pack of about 20 dozen shells, and 1500 snow rags.

My duck decoys are the ones I am looking at preserving. There are more corners and places that get nicked up. I am running mostly GHG (10 dozen - new this year), 4 dozen G&H, and an assortment (15? dozen) of flambeau. These are getting phased out and given to some younger waterfowlers (ie kids) as I come across them.

yeah I think so also.

I know when I was in high school as a freshman I wanted to start duck hunting and my dad had gotten out of it. Trying to buy everything was next to impossible. So now, If I can find a Jr high kid or younger high school kid that has the desire, and someone to take him, i'll give my older decoys to them. Don't get me wrong, by old I don't mean shot and faded to crap. Just ones that don't have the luster of my new ones. Ones that I would still use.
