I made the purchase of the SMH and the cd from Cabela's, still waiting for the cd Vol 1. They are on back order but are soon to arrive. I am wondering about the mallard call, which of these calls will make the best nasal sounding mallard. I like the deep sounds of these calls mainly because I hunt Lake Champlain in NY and the marshes off the Lake. Which is best for the lake and the marshes. I love the sound of the SMH and hope the duck calls will impress me and the ducks on the Lake.

Glad to see you like the SMH!!!! And WELCOME to the forum!!!!

As for the duck calls....well....if you are looking for a do-it-all duck call to cover you for the open water on the lake and in the marshes and timber off the lake - the SMM will fit the bill. This call can ring to reach out to the birds on big open water yet you can get down and dirty on this call to work those in tight birds in the marshes and timber. Personally, I own three duck calls...each serves its purpose. The SMM is only used on big water and every once in a while when I need an attention grabber. The TR (Timber Rattler) is used in swamps and marshes. Now...my go to duck call is a wood Legend double reed (hedge barrel and smoke poly insert). This call is flat out hen mallard...hands down. The only thing about this call is that the volume for big open water is not there. But if you are looking for a flat out duck killing call (in my opinion)...the Legend is it.

But...before you buy any of the above calls...Jeff is coming out with a new duck call...a hybrid of sorts - between the TR and the SMM. This may be the ticket for what you are looking for.

Once the new call comes out...take the time to visit your local Foiles dealer (Gander Mtn, Cabelas, Sportsmen's, etc.) and blow them all....figure out what sounds best to YOU and go with that call. Picking a call is an individual choice...we can recommend calls for you to try...but if I can give you any advice at all...pick the call that fits YOU and that YOU like...not the call that someone told you to buy because they like the sound of it!!!

Good luck with your decision....and if there are any other questions that you may have...post up or PM one of the Pro-Staff guys and we will do what we can to help you out!!!!
